The Miami Heat Select: Derrick Favors

You can afford to gamble a bit.

Am I due at 8:10 or can I pick at 8:10?

I believe that's when the pick is due.

That's what I've been telling everybody.

But I feel like we have this conversation every year.

The (Clippers) New England Ninjas pick 6'8" 235lb Forward from UNC ... Antawn Jamison

Nice pick out of nowhere, Bahku. Jamison is having a great year.

Definitely a great year.  I guess my concern is that he can't really play SF anymore, so he'll be a sixth man behind Blake.

Thank you, Sir ... really need a Center, but couldn't pass up one of the better players left on the board. I love the athleticism and power we're starting with.

Good point. I much prefer him at the four. But he's BPA or near enough, where we've seen a lot of reaches at the end of this round - Asik, Odom, Favors, and I don't how to feel about Bogut.

Actually, I think he could be very effective at the three behind CP3 and Griffin, (depending on the rest of the line-up), but I have a feeling he'll be even better trade bait. ;)

Last draft I picked completely on need and suffered a bit for it, this time I'm leaning a bit more toward BPAs. Live and learn, hopefully.

I'm surprised by some of the Bogut criticism (outside of SO's specific critique of Bogut on Edgar's team).  This is a guy who, when healthy, is a second rounder in the CB Draft, and helped carry IP's team to a final four finish last year.

The guy is 27 years old, and is a legit 7-footer.  I think a lot of GMs probably over-thought this one.

Ok. A few things: 1) Im on my phone, so quick responses you ain't got.

2) still waiting on confirmation from all parties to post a trade, so if you're waiting that's why.

Board will get updated in the morning

As for Asik and Odom. I'm going to say both would've been available at the back end of the next round. Anyone want to disagree?
well obviously I do about Odom.

Take a look at who's been picked so far.  No way he falls to me in the next round.

Actually IP's team with Bogut/Lowry/Stat/harden and a bunch of nobodies went to the Finals beating possibly the greatest team ever assembled in CB history......just saying

That's why I'm ambivalent. It's a question of fit.

Anyway, BPA on talent alone, but a poor fit next to KG and Pierce given that he's out for the remainder of the season.

Well and the injury history, he now hasn't had a healthy season since '07-'08, and historically serious injuries tend to wear down seven footers even worse than the average NBA player.

That said, Edgar only needs one good season out of him. It just has to be next year.

I think its arguable though. Yes, you're right when healthy he's a top performer - I even (albeit very briefly) - considered him in the first pick, but his health has to be a huge concern. He hurts win now teams, and he can't be count on for team of the future.

There's been much worse selections, but I think there's good reason to say something like "I'm not sure what to expect out of him" when it comes to the Big Australian.

Yeah, I would've said he was a bit overdue otherwise, but the rather siginficant injury had him moved quite a ways down on my list. He's definitely a gamble at this point, but not a terrible one.
