Doc will play rookies when they've got no competition in front of them.

As opposed to what?  Throwing the ball boy out there?

JJJ is in a different situation than E'Twaun because of who's playing in front of him, but if Doc really thinks JJJ can play than he needs to play, even if it's just a few garbage minutes in the 1st half.

What do people think helped Avery Bradley more?  Being stuck on the bench all last season or being force-fed minutes this season, even when he stank up the court?  I mean, when the team, particularly KG, was playing so very poorly, did it make any sense for JJJ to remain glued to the bench?  Doc got so desperate in one game, he tried a line up with Bass at center.  When it's that bad, stubbornly refusing to play a rookie like JJJ is inexcusable.

As opposed to the ball boy. That was funny.

I guess maybe the question is starting to become why he isn't in the NBDL if he's following the Avery Bradley path

My thoughts exactly. TP.

What does Doc do when nothing worked? Try the same thing but change the digits around.

Pierce and KG making a comeback is half the reason we're winning. As I've said in another thread, I think a healthy mixture of Bradley and playing the bench more is the other half. And it took a plague of injury (Dooling and Rondo and JO...etc.) for that to happen.

I find the title of thread kind of funny in its own way.

How about "We can kill the trade talks of the guy who can't get off the bench for the ALL Rookie first teamer"

I agree. We can totally kill those talks

My comment was in response to the argument that Moore must be better than JJ, because he's getting minutes while JJ isn't.  Obviously, Doc is going to play players out of necessity, even if he doesn't think they're ready.  The fact that Moore is getting minutes and JJ isn't doesn't really say a whole lot about the potential of either.  Rather, it says that Moore has Avery Bradley in front of him, while JJ is stuck behind KG, Bass, and Wilcox.  If KG and Bass get hurt like Rondo and Dooling did, I'm sure JJ will see time.

Who said he's following the Avery Bradley path?  In terms of the D-League, though, I think Doc and Danny probably prefer JJ working out with KG and the rest of our bigs, as opposed to getting playing time at a lower level.

I think you made the original Avery comparisons regarding confidence etc

I said that Avery Bradley looks better now that he's got some confidence.  I'm not sure how you extrapolated that to mean that the two guys were going to be following the same path, though.  They're different players at different positions with different competition and different levels of experience.]

But earlier this season, Wilcox was hurt and KG was playing like crap and JJJ still couldn't get off the bench.  Yes, if both Wilcox and Bass went down to injuries Doc might start playing JJJ.  The question is, shouldn't Doc be trying to get JJJ some minutes instead of waiting until it's an emergency situation?

JJ needs the weight room right now more than anything.   As long as he has access to weight he should blossom some day.   I thought he looked a tiny bit bigger last night than at the beginning of the season.   Not a big difference but a slight amount.

I don't think so. Before the offseason where we replaced BBD and picked up Wilcox, it was looking like JJJ was about to get thrown into the fire just out of necessity, but now there are legit veterans ahead of him. Real minutes will help, but so does practice. We've got JJJ for a while, we don't need to rush his development.

No, he should be trying to develop JJJ, not necessarily playing him. Even more important, he should be trying to get the team corrected, which fortunately seems to have happened.

Until the team started winning regularly, Doc wasn't really in a position to mess around with on the job training.
