Can't believe despite all the punishments Ohio State is cleaning up...they took 5 guys or so from PSU.  Urban Meyer is going to be someone I don't like. I just know it.
As a lifelong Buckeye fan I can tell you it shouldn't be a surprise.  Ohio State is one of the top 5 programs in the country and has a coach with multiple national titles (even before Meyer took over, Fickell had OSU in the top 20 and everyone knew he was a lame duck coach).  USC cleaned up in recruiting and it got hit much harder than Ohio State, why, because it too is a top 5 program.  I am not a huge fan of Urban Meyer, I just don't like him, but as coaches go, there are very few better (if any) so I'm sure he will grow on me coaching my team.

Penn State has been deteriorating for years.  Every so often Paterno would land a great class, which would show in the standings, but it hasn't been a truly elite program in years.  Paterno needed to retire 10 years ago (at least 5 anyway) when PSU was still PSU.  With the scandal I wouldn't be surprised if PSU falls into the bottom third of the Big Ten for the next 4 years or so, at which time it will bring in a new coach and try to turn it around (which it can do).  Perhaps the new guy will surprise me, but he just seems like a poor fit and I would have gone after a young up and coming coach who maybe PSU wouldn't normally consider, but that could come in and right the ship with new energy, style, etc. and certainly someone that could recruit.

I partly agree that Bill O'Brien is an awkward fit.  I'm amazed between all of Paterno's former guys none of them could or would do it. Al Golden, etc.  I think they should strongly consider trying hard to bring in some NFL guys if they'll come. Kerry Collins and Bobby Engram I think would really fit well.

But I like BOB way more than Tom Bradley. That guy is a d bag

I agree they needed to clean house and get rid of everyone that was there, I just think a young up and coming coach was the way to go.  You know a guy like Urban Meyer when he was at BGSU or Utah.  Kevin Sumlin, for example, seemed to fit that mold.  I have no idea if Sumlin would have gone there, as he may have been too established to take on Penn State in its current condition, but that is the route I would have taken.

Or, I would have brought in a well respected veteran coach on a short term contract to get the program back on track.  A guy like Tony Dungy would have fit that description (again I have no idea if Dungy was available).  Dungy clearly doesn't take the job long term, but a 2 or 3 year contract for huge money and maybe he accepts.  You give him full access and control and he turns around the culture and brings respectability back to the program.  Perhaps he even grooms the replacement.

Penn State hasn't been "Penn State" since the 90s.  To me, the days of them being a perennial national title contender are long gone.  Much like Notre Dame, the allure of the past is blinding the present and creating somewhat ridiculous expectations.  University Park & South Bend just don't have the same cache with this generation of young football players.

That might come across as a bit harsh but that's my feelings.

Ohio State's probation won't hurt these recruits....they'll redshirt and still have 4 years to compete without probation

Many of them will play as freshman, but again it isn't like freshman year really matters.  Ohio State still has one spot left and may very well end up with a top 10 recruit (Stefon Diggs who visited a few days ago).

They have also already landed two top tier recruits, one 5 star and one borderline 5 star, for next year.  Urban Meyer is a recruiting machine and is at a program that leads to the top tier recruits.  I think Urban got tired at Florida which led to a bit of a drop off at the end, but if he keeps his passion and keeps hiring awesome recruiters, there is no reason he won't have Ohio State back in national title games in the very near future.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7533344/les-miles-lsu-tigers-questions-gunner-kiel-ability-lead

wow....Les Miles is a real d bag cry baby. The guy criticizes 18 year old Gunner Keil for changing his mind, when clearly he didn't mind when he changed his commitment from Indiana. He also admits he never stopped recruiting other players at Gunner's position, but thinks Gunner should have stopped looking around.

I mean I can be a total d bag, but I probably wouldn't announce it so unashamedly to a large group of people. The guy shows more self - entitled narcissism than anyone since ....Sheldon from Big Bang Theory
