Thats a link to the article by yahoo sports analyst Adrian Wojanrowski. Its also the first one that comes up on a google search for Boston Celtics (if you're looking to read it).

Anyway, I read through the article, gotta say it must have been very moving for perk to spend time with his old teammates. The section on pierce is interesting though. Wojnarowski claims that other teams have been calling inquiring about pierce. If traded, the celtics can get rid of his remaining 2 year contract for a shorter one to aid the rebuilding process.

His remaining 2 years does make it much more difficult to begin rebuilding and I can honestly see this happening even as early as March. The fact remains that this man has been a Celtic his whole life...can you imagine him anywhere else?

Do you think it will happen? Pierce has done so much for this organization, but in the end hes still a player with a contract.

Also, which teams do you think want him? We've been hearing a lot about member(s) of the big 3 being traded to the Hawks for Smith... but people usually claimed it would be ray or kg. were we really looking at the wrong members?

As Kevin Garnett and Allen become free agents this summer, money will peel away from the salary cap. Between then and now, the bigger question promises to be: Does ownership and general manager Danny Ainge go for the complete rebuild and trade Pierce before the March 15 deadline? Several contending teams have inquired about Pierce’s availability. As one Eastern Conference official said, there are “lots of calls asking if [Boston] will blow it up.”

Quote
Garnett and Allen come off the Celtics’ cap this summer, but Pierce is the most perplexing member of the Big Three. He has two years and $32 million left on his contract through the 2013-14 season, and moving him for a shorter deal could make the Celtics a huge player in free agency the next two years. As Boston officials contend, this is the reason they didn’t re-sign Perkins and Tony Allen to long-term contracts. They’ve been preparing for the time their core became too old, for the team’s need to start over.

I love PP,but if this could put the c's in better position to rebuild quicker I would have to strongly consider moving PP

Something like PP to his hometown Clippers for Caron Butler, Bledsoe and filler I think I would pull the trigger on that. Gets us a young piece for the future and a guy who can still ball for a few years on a reasonable contract with Butler.

He says contenders called about him, what other teams?

Portland for wallace?(would love him running with rondo)

I would take either of those trades in a heartbeat to be honest, especially the clippers one.

Otis Smith is probably one GM that called, they would like veterans for Howard.

I wouldn't like to trade Pierce, doesn't look good for his legacy,he's one of the all time best Celtics.

  • Rondo = Good
Even if the team is still struggling in late February or early March, I still wouldn't consider trading Pierce unless it were for a young piece, some picks, or some combination thereof.

I think the main temptation in trading Pierce is going to be in securing even greater amounts of cap space moving forward.  I doubt we'll see any teams offering great packages of talent / picks.

The problem is that the team could theoretically secure that cap space just as easily by simply amnestying Pierce this summer or next.

However, trading him instead would be a way for the team to save face publicly while accomplishing the same goal, while also getting some minor assets in the process.

Something's gotta give, I keep having dreams about weird trades going down. A few nights ago we got Tyreke, last night Pierce landed Harden. No real logic to anything in my subconscious, but I'm sure Ainge's mind is reeling.

At least it's encouraging to hear that people are inquiring, even though people have felt that we can't get anything of value back.

To be honest if the magic would trade howard for a package centered around pierce thats something you can't turn down (mainly cause id be shocked).

But no I hear what you're saying he's one of the all time great Celtics. But his contract is perplexing... if he plays one last season somewhere else, he's still going down as one of the all time great celtics that played for over a decade and won a ring in this organization.

thats actually the part that made me the most optimistic... people still see value in more pieces than just Rondo...

btw I wouldnt say your subconscious is too out of wack. tyreke evans would be a great piece for this team

Pierce for Howard works straight up I think. Even with some filler from our side.

Doubt they amnesty him. They would like some assets most of all, but also using the amnesty provision severely impacts where he can go play. He might get picked up by a team under the tax and be in a less then ideal situation. Doubt they do that to him.

Pierce KG and Ray for Hedo, Howard, and some fillers. Then try and move Rondo for D will to keep Howard here...

lol well it definitely would have to be something along those lines for us to acquire Howard. The only thing that would make him want to stay in Boston is playing with Williams. Orlando can get better offers the just Pierce. Kg and Ray actually allow them to dump salary too and Orlando wants veterans supposedly.

Agreed it aint happening tho. That's just the only way I can see it happening. Rondo would be needed to acquire D Will so you can't move him to Orlando. No, I think the only place Howard is going to get traded to is the Lakers.

I'm for him staying, in a lesser role and LESSER money.  He has got to made to understand the position the team is in. Celtics are in dire need of new talent WHO CAN HIT A SHOT...if the big three don't help us with lesser roles and money , then I think for the good of the Celtics teams future they have to go.

It hurts to watch them get their tails whipped now and it will get worse , they aren't getting younger.

Don't trade em off for junk , but don't stand in the way of sending PP off , if that means getting a player like Kevin Love.
