If Minnesota feels that even with the extra cash they can give Love that he will not re-sign with them because he doesn't like the market, they would almost have to sign and trade him this off season.
Why?
Because they risk him taking the qualifying offer this off season because he doesn't want to sign an offer sheet and have the T-Wolves match it. If he accepts the qualifying offer, then Love basically has to play for the Wolves for the entire season, can't be traded, and then enters unrestricted free agency where Minnesota can lose him without compensation, though, it is still possible they could sign and trade him then as well. But that is no guarantee though Minnesota could guarantee getting something back this year as they still have right of first refusal and could force the situation.
