In an interview with 1500ESPN.com, Kevin Love was asked to pick the better power forward between he and Blake Griffin.

“I believe I'm the best '4' in the league,” he said. “I think you have to believe that you're the best. I think Mohammad Ali even said, 'I was the greatest before I knew I was.' I think everybody needs to have that mindset. That's part of winning the mind game from the very start. You have to believe it. You have to hold yourself accountable."

Love, 23, also touched on the possibility of the Wolves offering a maximum contract that would pay him as much as $80 million over five years.

“I don't know,” he said. “I don't know the answer to that at this point. It's all in my agent's (Jeff Schwartz) hands. People can speculate and say what they want, but I will just go out there, play basketball, and help this team win.”

While he wouldn't commit to signing an extension if the opportunity presented itself, Love also didn't rule out staying in Minnesota.

“I just don't know what I am going to do,” he said. “I'm happy to be a Timberwolf at this point and happy we're winning games.”

LOL @ that package.  Just wait till he's a UFA in 2013 and make a run at him.

Sounds like there isn't an offer on the table yet.

He would be awesome for this team. I'd start him over KG.

there aren't many power forwards in this league I wouldn't start K-Love over.

I'd feel bad for Minnesota losing another PF but oh well. Pity doesn't bring banners.

I think Love will stick around.  As bad as the Timberwolves have been, things are looking up now, and Love has to like what he's seeing from Rubio.  Not many teams he could join with a promising young passer like that.

I don't really see that team going anywhere without a few more pieces. I'd hate for KL to waste away for years and have nothing to show for it.

If they can move Beasley, Love, Rubio, Williams is a great young core.

Which PF would you take over Kevin Love? Can only think of Blake Griffin. I can't believe people have been debating whether or not KL is worth a max contract.

Edit: This isn't directed at anyone in the thread. It is just what I have been seeing on other sites and threads.

Likely - Minny offers max deal and Love signs.

Less Likely - Minny low-balls and Love asks for S&T. C's have chance to get him in summer.

Remote - Love refuses to sign with Minny or any long term deal that might get matched by Minny and plays out 2012 at offer sheet to become UFA in 2013 and move on.

What will happen - Kahn will meltdown at having fallen backwards into a good roster and trade Love to Boston for KG to ensure Minny remains a crap team.... ;) jk

well, no, the team isn't going anywhere if they just stand pat, but who says they'll do that?

go forward with the core of Rubio, Love, and maybe Williams, add some good wing defenders and a defensive center, and you've got a team that can make the playoffs.  give them a couple years to develop and they're a high level wing scorer away from contending.

so yeah, they need to make some moves to get some pieces around them, but I think it's hard to go wrong with a Rubio / Love combination going forward.

two reasons Love is consistently underrated:

1. he's unathletic (and white)
2. he's not a great defender

yet, who else in the league can put up 25 pts and 10+ rebounds every single night while nailing shots from all over the floor, including a high percentage from outside?  he's one of the most productive players in the league.  not to mention he's been so productive offensively despite playing without a single playmaker for most of the past few years.

He'd be fine if he's surrounded by the right people. A defensive oriented 5 would be ideal.

The scary thing is it's actually more like 15RPG. This guy is the best rebounder in the league, and has a ceiling of something like 30 / 15 with 40% 3PT and 90% FT. He has weaknesses, but the offensive numbers he's capable of are right up there with LeBron & Dwight Howard.

I'll tell you what would be interesting. Minnesota offering Howard a max deal next year, to play with Rubio / Williams / Love. Howard and Love would be the top 2 rebounders in the league playing together, a perfect inside / outside combo on offense, Howard's defense would cover for Love's... unreal. Too bad there's not a chance in you-know-where of Dwight taking his talents to Minneapolis.

Of course I'd rather see Love & Howard in Boston together, but that doesn't exactly leave room for any of the Big 3... a guy can dream right?
