John Hollinger:  How can David Stern NOT kill a David West-for-garbage trade

Adding some weight to those "Hollinger loves the Lakers, hates the Celtics" conspiracy theories. ;)
Hollinger hates Jeff Green because Green struggled so much at PF while at OKC.

Too much focus on his stats. Not enough on the talent / skill-set (that J.Green could be a valuable player if used in a different role).

Because David West is a legitimate free agent?

I wouldn't be so sure we still need to sign a center at this point . . . unless there are more dominoes to fall, having KG / West / Bass / Wilcox is way too many guys for just the power forward rotation.  One or all of those guys will play significant minutes at center, and one of them will probably start.  There's also JJJ, assuming he isn't part of the trade.

Without further additions, I would expect this lineup / depth chart

C  - K.Garnett, C.Wilcox
PF - D.West, B.Bass

Just to throw out the most left field thought I could... any thought of Danny throwing the ultimate curve ball and using amnesty on KG??

They are taking on $6 million in salary and getting nothing useful out of the deal.

Are draft picks involved? There would have to be picks involved for there to be any benefit for New Orleans.

Not unless there is an undisclosed injury/serious arthritic issue.

West is one of the best PF in the game. Solid as they come. If this is true, it may explain why Doc was being so mysterious about getting all of our guys here to start practice.

Are they thinking of playing Jjuan at SF?

Jjuan, Bass and Wilcox would be a very quick unit.

Can we still get Rip, don't see Chicago taking both Rip and Crawford.

Some one said a 25 mill contract?? Kinda steep for a guy coming back from and major injury?? Something Danny Doesn't really like...

I like David West, but we have enough PF's, They've been really talking Green up. But its that 25 Mill contract thats getting me and still no center...

Um didn't Howard just screwed himself with New Jersey, I don't think he can sign there now, soooo, the money works out, could Howard be coming here????

Don't think it would happen but it would be nice...And it would kinda solve that pesky Center problem...

We'll see. Don't know what the deal is yet. Jermaine or Jeff Green?

Green would be fair enough incentive. Either way, David Stern's not going to block another trade. Career suicide.

I'm not a big cap guy but I think we wouldn't be able to spend most of KG's salary because we're so far over the cap.  And I don't think we're in a hurry to put the season on West's knees in a compressed season.

Two options:

1.  From what I understand, the Lakers needed to take back some salary in their three way trade.  JO's could be what gets it done; or

2.  Jermaine could retire, not costing the Hornets his salary.

EDIT:  In line with the above:

Quote
A. Sherrod Blakely: Spoke with a source close to #Celtics Jermaine O'Neal who said if he were to be traded to the #Hornets, JO would "never make it there"

$25 million over 3 years for an all-star caliber PF is an amazing deal for us.

For perspective, BBD is making $6.5 million per season.  David West is taking between $8.3 and $9 million.  Only roughly a $2 million disparity.  That's insane.

David West is not an All-Star caliber forward. He is an above average starter. A top 15 PF.

David West is a PF who might be the best jump shooting PF in the league. Shoots above 50% from the field, and over 80% from the line. He is also a very solid rebounder. Doc said today "in order for Rajon to be better we need to surround him with better shooters and that is something we have talked about at length."... this appears to be that.
