Appearently Atlanta's ownership is still refusing to pay the luxury tax.

So they are pretty hemmed in right now. Can't make any non-minimum contract signings and might have to focus on rookie minimum contracts to fill final roster spots.

And perhaps most importantly, this makes it just about impossible for Atlanta to do a sign and trade for Jamal Crawford because they cannot take back any salary. So we can write off those NYC and Chicago S+T for Jamal Crawford rumours.

Hands are tied.

What if they use amnesty on Marvin Williams?

I don't see how that could be worthwhile option for Atlanta.

I don't see any free agent or S+T package that would be enticing enough to spend all that money on Marvin Williams + the new incoming players ... especially for a group of owners as financially conservative as Atlanta's.

If BFM hasn't posted it already, Mike Bibby officially signs with Knicks.

New York Knicks officially announced the signing of free agent Mike Bibby

Bibby immediately becomes the main reason why I don't fear the Knicks will overtake the Celtics in the Atlantic.

Yeah, terrible signing. Awful player (nowadays) to begin with but to add insult to injury, Bibby is just as awful a fit in that Mike D'Antoni uptempo system.

I am still hoping they manage to snag JJ Barea though. He'd fun on that squad.

The Knicks still have a long way to go before they are a threat in the East. No depth.

Unless the Knicks find a third team willing to take Douglas+Walker+Balkman, for example. Using picks/money as an incentive.

ps - the Knicks already used the $3 million in the Turiaf trade, forgot about that. So, no money. Yeah, difficult to happen.

I wonder who will get Crawford.

Clippers reportedly will match 4 year $40 mill offer sheet to DeAndre Jordan.  Big commitment for that guy...probably improves the odds of keeping Blake down the line, though.

Reggie wanting the MLE is a foolish.  If he'd come here for the vet min, I wouldn't object but I'd prefer someone of legit-center size

Golden State has used its amnesty waiver on Charlie Bell, team says.

@WojYahooNBA

A little off topic but he showed up drunk at his DUI hearing.

That is kind of disappointing. That they kept Biedrins and his huge contract clogging up their cap flexibility.

With Andris Biedrins, David Lee and Monta Ellis taking up all that cap space ... the Warriors only have a small amount of flexibility to add a major talent.

It's going to be tough to turn that group of characters into a Championship team in the next 3-5 years.

NBA teams just notified that Gilbert Arenas, released by Orlando via the amnesty clause, has cleared waivers and becomes free agent

Quote
So no cap-room teams chose to bid on Arenas and he's free to negotiate w/anyone. Told he hopes to land on same team that trades for Dwight

I hope someone bids for Billups and Davis.

Has Richard Jefferson been waived yet? It was announced, but the Spurs haven't yet used the amnesty, have they?

Are you serious??? The Knicks have immediately taken over the top spot in the Atlantic? Amare and Melo were good, with no defense behind them, but how can you discount the signing of Chandler? Those 3 - and yes I know that Amare and Melo are matadors -  but you have arguably one of the best defenders behind them. I with the Chandler signing, i actually thought that put them in title contention, no matter who the coach is?

Ah, poor Dwight Howard ... why does he have to get stuck with Arenas?
