The Celtics have traded fat boy Glen Davis for another undersized PF in Brandon Bass.

This really doesnt help this team going forward IMO

The story can be found below

Like I said in another thread - very similar playing styles.

With that said, I think Davis accomplished everything he could here and wsan't going to get any better.  Bass may be able to come in and improve playing with KG

hopefully it doesn't hinder JJJ's development. I think the kid will be special player.

Great news. I love Bass's game. He'll bring some rebounding and toughness.

What this is is a lateral (at best) basketball move that makes a ton of sense off the court.

While Bass is not really a better player than Davis, he is not nearly the headcase, and even more importantly, he is only signed for 1 year and a player option (and if he plays well this year, there is a great chance he will turn down that option).

Considering it was looking like Davis was going to get a multi-year deal from someone, this was a bit of a coup to be able to replace him without using any other assets.

Now the C's still have their MLE, and Jeff Green, and they are pretty much set at PG and PF, and perhaps the wing if they sign Green.

Not a bad start.  Now its time to finish Danny.

JJJ can't be the primary backup PF, not a good plan.

I like this move a lot, good solid depth.

That one year would make him easier to trade. I like the price too.

The only thing that will hinder his development is himself.  If he is ready to play, he will play.  But I wouldn't count on it too early.

this works for me. after reading the other thread i agree that bass will help the celtics more than davis.

bass' mid-range shooting will be much better, and given the celtics' offensive sets, the big men get a lot of chances to shoot from 15 or so feet away.

plus, bass plays with great energy.

bass is reported to be black hole and averages 0.5 assists a game this earned him the nickname of "no pass bass." ha, ha. but then again, davis averages 0.8 assists a game in his career.

as a back up powerforward, i am fine with this move for bass.

hopefully, both players do well for their new teams. good luck to davis and he did bring some good moments to the celtics.

Per game is not the best way to compare stats.  You're just lucky their mpg are similar.  Bass has a career 1.1 assists per 36 minutes.  Davis is at 1.4.  (Leon Powe is at 0.8 for his career, if you want to know what a real black hole is like.)

One thing about Bass is that he does have longer arms and can block shots.  At this point in their careers, Bass will probably block shots at the same or a slightly higher rate than KG.

Sorry for the repetition. I was a bit slow on the draw.
