This trade is as much about Dwight Howard as is it about Chris Paul.
agreed... Bynum for Howard ... lock it in.  Lakers pulled it off

I don't think so.   Orlando can do better. Plus, history does favor a keen reluctance for Orlando to hand the Lakers another dynasty.
Such as? What trade offers do you expect Orlando to receive?

Rumor was they received an offer of Brooke Lopez and 2 #1's for DH.  I think that is significantly better than DH for Bynum.

Frankly, doesn't EVERY team in the league stop and think for a minute if DH is on the market -- who wouldn't you trade for him?  I am just guessing (and hoping) that an injury prone Bynum cannot be the best offer.

Well, I look at this way:

PGs - Deron, Paul, Rose are all staying put.
SGs - no top notch young twos around (weakest position in league these days)
SFs - LeBron, Durant and Melo are staying put (Granger, Gay, Iggy, Deng next line).
PFs - Blake Griffin isn't on the table. Amare won't be on the table if Tyson Chandler is signed. That leaves only LaMarcus Aldridge, and, if you are Dwight Howard, why in the world would you sanction a trade to Portland given the state of that franchise? He wouldn't and there is no way Portland puts Aldridge on the table if Dwight is leaving in a few months time. Then you have your older PFs like Z-Bo.
Cs  - Joakim Noah, Andrew Bynum, Brook Lopez ... all available.

I'd like to see Oklahoma put Russell Westbrook on the table. I think that could be a winning bid. Not sure they'll do it though. They wouldn't for Chris Paul.

After that, you are talking Rondo (Boston non-starter for Dwight without a top young talent alongside him) + Steph Curry (GSW non-starter without Curry for Dwight) + Tony Parker (really?).

It looks to me that an Andrew Bynum offer would be quite competitive.

Although, (1) Chicago with Noah + Boozer together, and, (2) Oklahoma with Westbrook ... could top the Lakers offer. Those two teams have the best trade package on the market.

I'd prefer A.Bynum + two #1s over B.Lopez + two #1s ... but I can see that some with disagree with that.

the clippers can offer a much better package than anything the lakers can.  what they weren't willing to offer for chris paul they will probably be willing to offer for dwight howard.
Why would they be willing to offer that when they weren't for Chris Paul?

It's the exact same situation. A star player who refuses to commit to them and could very well leave in a few months time. I don't think it'll play out any differently than with Paul. It's just too big a risk for the Clippers to take.

I mean ... it's the Clippers. They're awful. Every player in the league makes fun of them. It's such a Hail Mary for Dwight Howard to re-sign there and they have to give up so much just to get that chance. I don't see it.

As for the Celtics, the only PG I'd trade Rondo for is a Laker now, so we'd better enjoy having Rondo. We have our chances, maybe not to land DH12, but to find an athletic rebounding/blocking/defense machine to pair him with RR and some scorers at the wing. The Wilt Lakers were also going to dominate the league, but you all know what happened.

Go Celtics!
I don't see Hondo or Bill Russell in a Celtics uniform currently.

But Dwight isn't half the player Wilt was, either...  ::)

I actually agree. I mean its amazing anytime you can get a guy of Chris Paul's caliber. However trading two very skilled starting big man to get him is an interesting move.

I think the hornets make out pretty god darn well in this case.
