I think a lot of us fans are looking at all the pieces we are offering and giving up, but we are missing the big picture....
What we should really be focusing on isn't CP3 or giving up Rondo.
What we should be focusing on is Banner #18, Banner #19, Banner #20.
What gets us a better shot at those?
I think making the trade for CP3 gives us the better shot.
cp3 for Rondo now may = Banner 18, but without cp extending or draft picks it doesnt = anything beyond that
cp3+jjj+PP+draft picks+cap space = a solid future
If CP3 stay the draft picks will be in the late 20s hopefully.
So then the loss isn't great, the danger is if he leaves and we really need them as they are lottery picks. Hence they should be protected.
I'm concerned more about the picks we got in our previous deals (clips pick for example). Those picks will have their same value regardless of how well we do. Actually, those picks could be even higher if we play better, because it could mean that we beat those teams more times (therefore pushing them to a higher draft position).
The Clippers pick is fully lottery protected for a while. So its value has a ceiling, and I'm okay with giving it up for a top 5 to top 10 player.
The Clipper's pick is only top ten protected. I doubt that changes your statement, but it makes me consider the pick a bit more valuable. With guys like Griffin, Gordon, and Jordan on board and their ability to sign real talent I think the pick might make it to us this year or the next.
