I was just watching sportscenter and they were talking about the Ron/paul trade, but at the end they said chris brousard reported that Paul wouldn't resign after the season. The legler came on and said this would be a rental for Boston to try and win one more championship with the big 3, but he wont resign because their roster will be old and empty after this year.

This sounds completely ridiculous to me. If paul came here and got to play under doc and compete for a championship this year huge cap space to sign talent to surround him with, why wouldn't he want to sign here. Most storied franchise in the league, gets to be the man in a bigger market.

I think Brousard is full of it and just talks out his ass...

Yep, I just read it here too.

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_/id/7297944/new-orleans-hornets-chris-paul-sign-boston-celtics-dealt-source-says

I am buying it.  Because it is true for the most part that we will be in complete flux and it's up in the air next year.  I think the article is pro NYC though.  I don't Brousard but I can see this being the case.

This sentiment attributed to Paul that the Cs will be rebuilding and therefore won't be a contender (whether the logic of it is flawed or not, which I believe it is) concerns me greatly.

It concerns me greatly, because if Paul believes that, I am sure many other potential free-agents (read Dwight Howard, et al) believe that also and we will have a hard time attracting anyone substantive here.

Well, if you are worried about Howard, it shouldn't concern you at all.  Teams with Howard don't rebuild.  His presence alone assures that the team will contend.  A team with Paul and Howard (dreaming of course) is a legit title contender regardless.

Or maybe he won't resign because he's just like Melo in the fact that all along he wants the Knicks, and ONLY the Knicks and just flat out refuses to go anywhere else.

Unfortunate because he can't see that he would be the piece to bring in someone else either a little later on or next year.

I understand the concern, but this theory makes no sense: the Heat weren't a contender two years ago, but then they used all their cap space to sign James and Bosh and suddenly WERE a contender -- so why can't Boston, with all the cap space it'll have in 2012, ink Paul and Howard and, with some other solid pieces (Pierce, a re-signed KG) be a contender?

Very true, Dr H.And the very unfortunate part of this is that if he feels that way, most likely others do too.

Last years Miami Heat conspiracy/collusion? to get three stars to play where they want to play has set a very bad precedent, perhaps for years to come.

If the reports of paul's sentiments are true, I think that it bodes badly for our Cs in attracting talent here.

How can he refuse? Does he have some kind of clause in his contract?

Chris Paul won't sign an extension with anyone.  He will wait to be a free agent, and if he stays with the team he is with, will sign a Bird Rights max contract, so he can get the 5 years and 7.5% raises.

I don't have enough confidence in Broussard's ability to believe he can be relied upon to discern the subtle differences, even if a source did tell him that.

In theory, they could. However, in Miami the three guys got together and decided to play together in South Beach.

Here, if the reports are true, CPaul, a key to bringing a group together does not want to be here.

I don't think signing Howard will be as easy as opening a can of soup. There are already NJ trade rumors, not to mention if he lasts until this summer, everyone and their mom will be vying for him. I don't see the guy coming here frankly.

Who is really bothered about Chris Paul when there is Deron Williams out ther to be had!

If you really wanted an upgrade at PG then you would trade Rondo for either a SG or a PF to replace both Allen + Garnett

Go after Williams instead. He's much better than Rondo man

Come on!

My mistake, I should have worded that better. It's not that he'd refuse the trade, it's that he would refuse to sign an extension/new long term contract where the team receiving him would NOT want to give up a bunch of players/pieces for a one year rental.

I would take DWill over CP3 any day.  CP3 is an injury waiting to happen.  I will even go as far as to say he will miss double digit games this year.

Mark it down.
