I really wasn't expecting them to salvage a season, but you've got to believe if they're willing to bring everything back on the table and start to have some constructive talks like they've had the last couple of days then they're intent on playing some games this year.

Call me optimistic.

It will be a crazy little free agent frenzy / pre-season if it happens.

There's been significant progress on the luxury tax, but league sources say that there's still a couple of sticking points left to work out.

This is a strange turn of events, maybe they're just tired?

Talks btwn players/owners just ended. Will reconvene at 10:30 Friday (tomorrow).

Also, sounds like BRI might not be as easy as I thought.

Players currently at 52.5. Intel saying if -If! - they budge, it's not likely to be below 52.

If the players stay at 52% of BRI with fairly minimal changes to the system, it will be a win for them.

I'm skeptical that the owners will go for that, though.

Let's say this is what happens, that the BRI is at 52% and very little else changes. Do you still believe the owners original claims of years of +$300 million losses and a broken system given that they settled so quickly and for about $200 million a year?

Or does it now appear to be less about them changing the system so that they can all be profitable and competitive and more about just getting a quick billion dollar money grab off the players over the next 5 years?

Not that business people aren't allowed to try to get the absolute best deal possible, they should, but I think if it ends like this, one has to re-evaluate the authenticity of the owners' original stance about a broken system and massive losses and think that they were just spinning a tale to sell to the public to put pressure on the players to get the best deal possible.

Also, the quickness that this went from season ending  Armageddon to everyone sitting down and the owners giving in on BRI, sign and trades and other stuff, makes me think that maybe they got wind that the NLRB decision wasn't going to be one they were not going to like.

How can you not be optimistic, you have Stern all giddy with the biggest smile I've seen on him in years. He's shouting from behind the podium "tomorrow" when Billys asked about when major moves would be made. They've come too far to not hammer out a deal otherwise they would have stand pat with where they were.

I am freakin stoked  8)

Looking good, from what I'm seeing in the thread and on Hoopshype.

I am a little concerned about how a full 82 game season at this point would affect the C's, though.

Better let Jajuan and E'Twaun loose.

But first things first I'm just hoping for a season above all else.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear, I'm SO excited about the thought of actual basketball right now! It seems so elusive, and so long ago! Weird!

Can't, frikkin', wait!

.edit: seriously, I haven't been this excited since ... 2 days ago, when I bought a Playstation 3, with Marvel vs Capcom, Tekken, Street Fighter and Modern Warfare 2 for cheapcheap.

Does this mean all this drafting and trading in Lucky17's FBB league really wasn't for nothing or did he have some type of female intuition to get the draft done so we/he wasn't under the gun?

Thanks lucky for the league and hopefully lighting a fire under the NBA's and player''s butts!

The Owners seem to be doing most of the huffing and puffing.

They've had the more aggressive demands and when they didn't get them, they've given most of the ultimatums and stopped talks.

It's interesting that the two sides are meeting so close to the NLRB's ruling on the Union's complaint. (And during these recent meetings, the two sides are making significant progress).

TP.  I've been thinking about this myself.

Still have to see if the owners are willing to go above 50 though.  Also, if this is and has been the owners plan, it is sort of a one time use plan.  Players will be extremely suspect of any claims of losses in the future (more so than they already are).  Are the owners really just after a "quick buck"?

My gut instinct tells me the owners have been fabricating a lot (not all) of their losses to get money from the players.

Bradley too.

The C's are going to need to play the younguns substantially more this year.

This FA period id going to be the bomb!!! Especially if a lot of players are released with the Amnesty Rule. A two week FA period followed by a three week Training Camp before real game are played will literally be chaos.
