If NBA players and owners are able to reach a deal by the end of next week, a 78 game season can still be salvaged, according to a report in the New York Post. Sources told the newspaper that the league can still construct a 78 game schedule if they are able to begin the season December 1.NBA commissioner David Stern said Friday that a full 82 game season could have been saved had a deal been struck that day.“We had quite openly discussed with the players that if we could make the deal, we could get the season in,” Stern said. The hope was to get the deal don in order to have an 82 game season so that players would not have to miss any paychecks. In order to that, teams would have to play several games back to back and some off days would have to be eliminated. The point is moot, however, since no deal was made Friday.Link
