I can't believe Donaghy is a bigger villain than Rae Caruth. If you picked Donaghy you can never complain about nba officiating ever again.

If you have an opinion about who is the bigger villain, then vote more often.

You are missing a lot of voting chances.  Every time somebody other than you votes, then you are eligible to vote again.

Therefore, if you stay on top of it, you can dramatically influence the outcome of this game.

The Case for Ulf Samuelsson

Top 10: Hockey Villains

Quote
Number 5
Ulf Samuelsson
Samuelsson was a serviceable journeyman defenseman for 18 NHL seasons, but he is rarely recognized for the tremendous impact he had on hockey. After all, he is a pioneer in the art of the knee-on-knee collision.

Ulf was a versatile player in that he could injure opponents with his elbow, hip, and stick, but he simply excelled at putting his knees to their best use; he could deliver shots that were both powerful and on target, the target being opponent’s kneecaps.

Some would say Ulf was at his best in the 1991 playoffs, when he ruined the career of mighty Bruins Cam Neely, who has the fourth best goals-per-game average in a single season in NHL history, as well as injuring Minnesota’s Brian Bellows with a similar attack.

So despised was Samuelsson that when another villain, Tie Domi of Toronto, sucker punched him and knocked him unconscious, players from across the league called Domi to thank him. It appears that one punch earned Domi enough hero points to narrowly miss inclusion on this list of villains, and that is a true credit to the villainy of Ulf Samuelsson.

A poster at the Globe forum deleted many of his posts leaving a whole thread in out of context ruins.

I did save it. I won't repost it all, just a tidbit.

I see on another thread a couple so-called Boston fans making fun of the Red Sox... No Massachusetts native would laugh at the Red Sox meltdown. They might whine about it, but they wouldn't rub salt in the wounds of Red Sox fans. I for one don't really care. What the Red Sox did in 2004 signified the end of baseball history, period.

I know you were not referring to me with those Sox comments...

How bout them Red Sox!!!

Bigger chokers than the lakers!!

I can provide screenshots if necessary. But who cares? The point is posters and moderators should never delete anything unless it's to fix typos or remove something illegal or otherwise threatening. As a Laker fan pointed out, "Some people stand by what they post and either defend their position or admit they were wrong. Some just delete their comments and run."

My opinion about deleting is different.  I don't care if people delete their posts.  It's just a sports message board.  It's not an important document.

As Fleetwood Mac sings: "Don't stop thinking about tomorrow.  Yesterday's gone.  Yesterday's gone."

Marge Schott (48)
Rae Carruth (60)
Mike Tyson (122)
Ulf Samuelsson (70)
John Rocker (0)
OJ Simpson (70)
David Stern (0) - Sorry to see Stern eliminated.  David Stern and Bud Selig have got to be the worst major sports commissioners of all time.
Tim Donaghy (72)

This survivor game is like a US Presidential general election: Like Presidential general elections, this game is all about choosing the lessor of several evils.  In Presidential elections, the acceptable candidates have usually all been eliminated before the general election.  And this game hardly had any acceptable participants at all, even at the beginning, just like a US Presidential election.  I fear that I may have to vote for Obama yet again.  We'll see.

You are correct about not caring about that snippet. But there it is, and I'm against deleting my posts.

Yes, that was a monumental choke by the Red Sox. I am a fair weather fan for them, as nothing will ever matter after 2004. It was all about them just winning once before heading off for an eternal snoozefest. It's kind of the same with the C's, as long as the Lakers don't win a title before us. All four of our teams are off the hook for at least a couple decades.

Any more titles will be proverbial gravy.

And you are correct that this game has turned into a battle of lesser evils. Too bad more people aren't voting. But it is what it is.

I made the mistake of venturing off into the political forum. I opened my big mouth with a self-fulfilling phrophecy about itchy fingers on the ban button.

Yet on the Russell-Jordan thread I've been doing well and amassing Tommy Points at a good clip.

If more people don't join in, we might have to debate this out between ourselves, or it will truly never end if we are too stubborn. Here's what I'm thinking. It's too easy to go with the murderers. I like Tyson, Ulfie, Donaghy, and Schottie as sports villians, because they did their nasty stuff in actual relation to their games. Carruth and the Juice did their stuff outside of sports.

I also agree with you it's a shame David Stern got off so easily. It's not far-fetched to argue he has ruined basketball. Without Stern, a guy like Donaghy would have found it a lot tougher to do mob work.

Marge Schott (52)
Rae Carruth (56)
Mike Tyson (126)
Ulf Samuelsson (66)
OJ Simpson (66)
Tim Donaghy (76)

And maybe we need to tweak the voting procedures. Maybe switch now to vote +10 for 2 and -10 for 2? I will give you full Judge Judy rights if you have any ideas.

Except for Tyson, there's a lot of parity up there in regards to the distribution of anti-Tommy Points.

I'm not that fond of continuing to change the rules.  Maybe we should just keep things the way they are.  I would almost rather see this game languish in suspended animation, from lack of continued interest, than change the rules again.  We could just let this game live on forever, even if everyone (including us) stops playing.

Regarding the "deleting posts" comment, it's an interesting discussion.  I'd encourage you to start a new thread in our Comments and Remarks forum.  We try to keep things on-topic here as best we can.

Thanks Roy H.. I meant no offense on the Republican Debate thread. I'm just usually hot or cold for my posts. They are either very good or very bad with no in between.

The thing is, I do not persist when there are heated discussions. Once in a while I have gotten out of line. Dslack gave me the McFly smack on the head, and life went on.

I admit to being a feisty bugger. Sometimes it works, sometimes it backfires.

Mooltrikon is tired of the Boston Globe forum discussions. I don't blame him. Nonetheless, I think there is this blog and in the next tier or close to you would have been the Globe Celtics forum. The collective consensus is that their moderators ruined a good thing.

I don't have the time today, but I will check out that subforum and probably act on your encouragement to start a new thread in your admin section.

I'll also try to check out your rules.

You might not know this, but Dslack, Mool, and another kid named Kyle Cleric came up with a formula to replace the draft lottery. It was even featured by Sports Illustrated. I also think it's amazing how Dslack was able to hook us up with Celtics Hub, an affiliate of ESPN. That hasn't worked out that great, but it was a brilliant idea at the time.

To sum up, I will do my best to not rock the boat. That thing about the itchy fingers was more like a joke. It was all turning very predictable. That's what I think happens far too often on the internet, and that's why I stopped posting on the Republican Debate thread. It would have become self-fulfilling. You know, like it's time to get out of your mom's basement. You're a troll. No, you're a troll. That kind of nonsense.

Mooltrikon is actually thinking of Ron Paul as a choice because of his antiwar views. I shouldn't speak for him. Hey Mool, if you're interested, there's this monster thread in the current events section you might want to participate in.

As for going off-topic, I admit to doing so on this thread. I just thought it was impossible to go off-topic in an off-topic forum. Think of the sound of one hand clapping.

Anyway, I admit if there were a survivor game for Celtics blogging villains, I'd be on the list. But I'd hope people would see me more like an obnoxious Howard Cosell than a Marv "I'm going to bite a chunk off of that lady's back" Albert.
