  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I think no trades until the end of the first is a really solid idea...just because you can really change the whole structure of the draft with 1 or two bad trades...the GM's that 'get after it' and actively target weaker or less experienced GM's will do better, and the ones that don't will wonder why they didn't and pretend they're morally superior.

I say screw the whole thing, no trades until the end of the first.

Those trades are still happening.  The only difference, the newbies don't see what vets are trading picks for to get a rough gauge of value.

What's the difference between that and people doing the same thing in the rest of the rounds or with players?

Agree, but I think that it happens more with picks.

Not to mention the fact that newbies don't even know who is a vet and who is less experienced/weaker so they can't do the same thing, or they see an uneven trade and gauge that as fair value.

I don't think that's true, there were people taking players and then offering them for an upcoming pick when they could've just taken who they really wanted with the original pick.

EDIT:  Actually I don't know what happens more, but both are problems.

i cant really speak about the process, as i wasnt involved.  i guess i would recommend involving more "outsiders", like myself, to get involved in discussion/voting.  not quite sure how u go about doing it.  for me, i somewhat read about the picks, trades, etc when they were happening.  i started to read once teams were finalized and voting was going to start.

to involve more outsiders, one idea would be to have less threads, if possible.  if your not in the draft, it is easy to be overwhelmed and confused by all the threads.  by condensing them, it may attract more people to get involved in discussion and voting.

just my 2 cents.  not sure how people felt about my involvement or voting.

I think this is the biggest for me. Having people who have nothing invested in this really makes the voting better. It also increases debates in threads and makes the game less subjective. I would LOVE it if there was a way to make the voting include as much GMs as possible.

Only thing is that some rounds could include more voters then others, but even so I think it's a good thing regardless. I really liked having guys like Dark Lord involved.

Greater encouragement of non-GM involvement in voting and critiquing. I love seeing people wander into these threads to give their two cents. Perhaps non-participating mods could be recruited to offer their two cents (for TPs, karma, etc.)? The more voters, the better, I think.

I definitely agree with this.  Maybe more front page promotion would help.  Maybe writing up a primer for newbies would be good.  I understand DL's point about the number of threads being intimidating, but at the same time that helps prevent confusion for those who are participating, I think.  I don't know the answer, but this should be talked about.

I think the bold part would. Look at how big the Finals thread was to the rest of them...

Also an article on the Home Thread explaining what the CB Draft is, how it works, how people can participate, and how they would be more then welcome to vote.

Well some of that has to do with how their pick is received in the "hows my team doing draft" and I think I only saw one bad trade. The Rudy Gay Trade (no offense Yoki). I think the veto thing was fine this far this year. Now if it appears that a trade is being made to help stack one team then I agree with that but I think the veto being too strict could cause people to quit.

Also Kane3387 and the Utah Jazz should be the Rookie of the Year!!!  ;D

Agree, if there was a rookie of the year it would be Kane, although thetruthfot18 did very well too. Yoki got a little trade happy, but he doesn't lose out for lack of trying, and you can bet he'll be wiser for it next time.

For whatever it's worth, there were a ton of bad trades made this year, in my opinion.  There were plenty of unbalanced ones from a talent standpoint, as well.  However, the only trade that went through that was veto-worthy in my mind was the Gay deal.

It was me thinking I won't get any depth. Now I know that in this thing I can find gems in later rounds, i will approach the next draft with caution and confidence.

That's the way to do it; keep what worked well for you, and disregard what didn't.  One of the great things about the draft is the repeat GMs every year, and you'll enjoy next year's draft even more than this one, I think.

My dirty little secret, Yoki, is that I was a horrible GM my first two years.
