I think the lack of big man depth is going to hurt Sacramento in the playoffs. I am not a fan of Diaw and Mohammad doesn't bring much to the table at this point. Dirk should honestly offset LeBron in impact when Sacramento plays the Warriors. That's a closer matchup then people might think.

LBJ makes it hard to argue against until you realize that he is better at playing fast. Billups isn't the right guy for that kind of system at this point. He doesn't get up and down the court as much. Jennings will likely see a lot of playing time against Curry in that matchup.

Aw hey look, ya did it again!

I've always felt a GMs own line up was relevant to his critique. But you're right I shouldn't lead the discussion too far afield.

So coming back around, my Pacific division rankings subject to change following further debate and an L.A. press conference:

1. Golden State Warriors
2. Phoenix Suns
3. Sacramento Dino-Boxer-Bots
4. Los Angeles Conspiracy

I can't put Phoenix over Sacramento... Phoenix just doesn't match up well. I like GSW though if Camby can stay healthy.

Haha.  I always love reading the Walker Wiggle contrarian curveballs.  But seriously, what's the issue with the Kings?  I'm not somebody who thinks they're an unbeatable juggernaut, but I do think they'll win their division in the regular season.  The playoffs may be another story, but Lebron plus a talented supporting cast seems to guarantee regular season success to me.

I'm a big believer in Karma. You noticed that I asked Nick about Miller's injury history, and implied some of Chandler's last few, but I do that knowing full well that I'm going to have a fair number of questions to answer on my own in that particular department.

And I'm not running from them, but if we're talking about the Pacific teams, lets talk about them. My own team is going to eviscerated tomorrow. This thread is only 3 pages long, and aside from Champ and Who, neither Nick or jgod has said much yet.

I'm having a hard time viewing the Kings slipping to 3rd in the division without some real solid reasoning. Can we encourage you to expound upon them?

I imagine T.Chandler would be the primary defender against Dirk.

Utilizing a three man rotation against Dirk with Millsap and Diaw the secondary and tertiary options.

Chandler ranked 173rd defending spot up shooters and 101st when isolated - his worst two areas. So I don't think he's going to have much success guarding a true power forward who excels in both situations.

If it came down to a playoff-style matchup, I could almost see Diaw defending Dirk. I'm not sure how much he'd slow him down, but it would leave LeBron and Chandler to do their thing and keep the other 4 guys under pretty good wraps.

Tyson defended Dirk pretty well in the playoffs a couple years ago while with the Hornets.

I think he can do a better job on Dirk than Millsap or Diaw can.

Sacramento Kings a.k.a. Dinoboxerbots

Roster

Starters

PF: Chauncey Billups
SG: Wesley Matthews
SF: LeBron James
PF: Paul Millsap
C: Tyson Chandler

Bench

Boris Diaw
Brandon Jennings
Mike Miller
Nazr Mohammed
Gary Neal
Jarred Jeffries
Eddie House
Chris Singleton

1) Why is Chauncey Billups starting at the PF?

2) Can we get a minutes breakdown?
1. He's not. It was a late night typo.

2.  We gave a general minute breakdown within the updated presser and we feel that giving specific minute hreakdowns is limiting to our coach and boxes our team into specifics that will lead to criticism. Our starters will play heavy starter mnutes with the exception of Billups who will play less than the others but still in line with what is his norm over recent years.

So in other words you're refusing to answer so you don't have to face criticism.

Not cool. There aren't any real games to be played Nick there is no coach to "box" in.

I prefer crackpot Roy, thanks.  ;) And I'll put my "batting average" up against anybody's.

My quick response: one of the upshots of a twenty-four team league is that greater roster depth balances out star power. (The downside is watching Willie Green go undrafted.) And anyway I've never subscribed to the idea that James or Howard or Bryant equates to the same sort of success in a CB league with far greater parity than the top heavy NBA we know and love. Yes, James is still the league's best player, although he's further tarnished his title. But I prefer both Golden State and Phoenix, 1 through 5.

Beyond that, you, me, IP, we aren't going to change on our minds regarding the Kings Dino-Boxer-Bots. So rather than face off - and lose - to you two, I'd rather discuss the merits of the Conspiracy instead? See if they aren't getting short shrift before they've even made their case.

Who covers David Lee if Chandler takes Dirk?
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

Sacramento:

1.  Wes Matthews played very sporadically in the playoffs.  Is he ready for prime time?

2.  Chauncey's defense fell off a cliff last year (351st in terms of points allowed per possession while with the Knicks).  Was that an aberration, or the start of a real decline?
1. We believe he is ready for the jump to almost All-Star level play. Tue growth in his game from college to the pros and then from his rookie year to his second has been about as good as any player in recent years. Last year he was a second year player asked to be a #1A option for his team in the playoffs. No such thint will need to occur and he can fall onto his more natural #3 type player on a championship caliber team.

2. To be honest, Roy, its probably a little bit of both. Chauncey's defense is definiteoy in decline but at the same time D'Antoni's defensive scheme, if ye even has one, could not be a worse fit for an aging big PG who never really had great rep for speed or agility on the defensive end.

Millsap or Diaw.

Both of whom are better equipped to defend D.Lee than T.Chandler is.

Well I will say this, between Champ's enthusiasm to discuss his team fairly along with nick's reticence to talk about his team for fear of incriminating himself, I'd love to hear a detailed argument about why the Warriors are better than the Kings...especially in the regular season (as opposed to the playoffs..so not against one another, but against the entire league).

And since you favor the Warriors I'd be more than happy to have a point/counterpoint. I still haven't decided my rankings yet here.
