  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
So, thoughts on my now complete starting 5?

K Lowry
T Allen
D Williams
A Stoudemire
A Bogut

I worry about the lack of shooting on the perimeter not allowing Amar'e and Bogut both room to operate.

I worried about that too, and its something I think I'll need to address. I don't want to turn STAT/Williams into perimeter only players just to give Bogut room to move and TA room to dribble off his foot into the stands.

Beasley was an abomination at SF last year.

I would be very reluctant to play him there.

I think the whole thing hinges on William's ability to play the SF at an NBA level

I'd say it hinges on his ability to defend the 3, and I'd say that's going to be my toughest battle. Offensively it works well, based on Williams college numbers and the 5 games I saw him play in. Defensively, I can't have Bogut with one eye on a cutting center for the oop and one eye on Williams man at all times. I think he can get the job done, but its going to take some thought to present the case.

C:  Noah
PF: Haslem
SF: Ariza
SG: Richardson
PG: Nash

6th man: Beasley

Of all of those lineups, I'd probably go with the first one as my primary lineup.  However, I also like the second one; Beasley wedged between Noah and Ariza makes up for a lot of his defensive deficiency.  Actually, the more I think of it, yeah, that second lineup is your best one.  Three scores, two defenders in the front court, lots of energy, etc.

Yeah, I'd go with the second one too.

Although I would trade Ariza for a SF who better fits Nash-ball.

Not too sure whether I'd keep Haslem or not. I like him a lot as a sixth man but he was a bad influence on Beasley's development in Miami. I think you get more out of Beasley if he isn't scared of getting the quick hook every time he makes a mistake. Someone less threatening than Haslem.

How close is the battle for starting PF? does Gibson have a shot at bumping Monroe? He certainly proved to be a force (given the right minutes/situation) in the playoffs.

Gibson will probably stay the back up because I like Monroe in the post taking some of the grind off Duncan. But Gibson will replace Duncan on most nights first and get a fair share of the minutes alongside both Duncan and Monroe.

Anyone have a problem with Beasley as my starting SF?
Yes

I realize he's better suited as a PF.

But he played the 3 quite a lot last year, and with the defense provided by Haslem and Noah behind him, I think he offers more to the lineup starting at SF.
The problem is his offense as much as his defense at SF.

Can you elaborate? Do you mean shot selection?

He ranked 20th in PPG last season, and shot as well from the field as some big name players who went in the first round.

Awful shot selection, complete ball stopper, had no clue how to play SF in any sort of structured offense.

He was 20th in PPG because he jacked up a ton of shots, and his efficency was bad.

The only first round pick who was worse was Rondo I believe and Rondo has a much lower usage percentage and is creating shots for others.

Rodney Stuckey and Taj Gibson being an amazing bench.
