I read the article and it said that Atlanta is looking for a center back in the deal. That would count us out.
we have JO, he isn't great but not awful, maybe they would want Green in the deal. In any case if we were to get Smith in order to get Howard then Green cannot be signed to the Celtics past next year. If Rondo isn't enough draw to get Howard then adding Smith certainly will help, remember KG didn't sign here until we got Ray Allen. Having Smith is 10x better than Green if you would want to entice a player like Howard.

i love RA and KG on this team, and so as a fan, i wouldn't want to see them go. the best situation for me would be if we can play out our current big 3 this shortened season, land Josh Smith next year and also sign Dwight. so basically, KG and RA ride off into the sunset (hopefully as champions) and we assemble our newest big 3 and hands down, the best defensive team in the league.

...not so sure about the offense though.

For those of us who wouldn't make this trade (either one) because theydon't want to hurt thier chances at landing Howard all I can say is see the Ny Knicks.  Every move they made was to get LeBron and he ended up in Miami.  This decision can't be made on weather or not it woud alow Howard to sign, it has to be made on weather or not it improves the team.

Personally I would trade Ray for him if it were possible.  I love Ray, Always have since his UConn days but @ guards are a dime a dozen in the NBA.  Sure they are not all as good as Allen has been but they would be good enough and Allen isn't what he used o be.

Plus I would want Smith to have a year of playing with KG so he can learn from him.  Learn what it take to get to the next level, what it takes to help the team win, what it takes to be a champion.  The tallent is there, Smith need someone to teach him how to put it all together and KG can teach him that.

i think so too...since Dwight wants to play with Smith...and with Rondo being a pass first pg...do you try to contend next year? or semi-rebuild in a process to try to contend?

if we dont have enough money to sign dwight, do a sign and trade if possible

A thought does occur to me.  Josh Smith went to high school with Rondo and has known Dwight Howard since pre-school.  A) Imagine if Smith was the axis of a troika attempting to assemble itself in Boston and B) Imagine the free throw shooting of that team.
Ya man but imagine that D.  These are 3 of the best 10 defenders in the league.  They compliment each other too.

Yeah I definately take serious thought into making some kind of a deal for Smith.  With Rondo as his point guard, who knows just how much he'd benefit from that...look at Tyson Chandler, granted most of his points came by the alley oop from CP3 but still...those two were a dynamite combo, I see similarities.

Because lets face it, this team is not winning a title this season.  To quote Theo this season really will be a "bridge year" until 2012.  And if there's a way to get players now in hopes of signing other free agents in 2012, then I say we do it.

I think it really hit KG hard mentally this past season when he realized himself that he's just not the consistent 20/10 player anymore and is slowing down altogether.  I'm getting more and more convinced that he'll retire after his contact is up.  Losing Ray would def be big because he can still shoot the lights out and our offense would take a drastic change, this of course being if we don't find another three point specialist.

Even with all that said though, I'd still be shocked if it happened.  I don't think we have the specific trade pieces that Atlanta would be looking for.  It's at least fun to think about though.

Our best chance at a championship this year is with the current core. I wouldn't trade ray or kg for anyone.besides sg is probably our thinnest position.

Its more likely orlando trades for him imo
no it isn't.  Boston's core will not beat the Heat.  There has to be moves unless by some miracle another team knocks off Miami before Boston has to play them.

If I'm not mistaken a dallas team with not as many "star" peices as us just beat the heat...our best player who runs our offense was injured and we got nothing out of our bench. We have rond and play team ball like dallas and we could beatthe heat

Ray was our best player last season. You don't create new holes to create others. Our sg spot is thin.

Dirk is significantly better then anyone currently on the Celtics.  That is the difference.

Boston, with a healthy pg and center, would have dispatched the Heat just like the Mavs did.

It says Atl loses wins, but they get the center they'll need!

Wow, this is an interesting deal.  People should take a look at this.  I don't know if Chicago would be crazy about aging so much in this deal considering how young Rose is.  But this could be something to build on...

Rondo, Smith, and Howard would be sick.  They'd win games on alley-oops alone.

If we could get them by trading the Big 3 that'd be even better so we could keep Green.  That'd be the ultimate fast lineup.  And probably the only way I would consider trading the Big 3.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

A lineup of Rondo, Whoever, Green, Smith, and Howard would be the most offensively challenged starting lineup in the history of basketball.

He's been in the league so long, it's hard to believe he's still only 25.

Seriously?

Wow thats absurd.

I would absolutely love to have this guy in green...

I would propose the trade of KG for Smith/Hinrich to start. If we had to add this years number 25 and bradley I would do that too... it would be nice to trade Baby for Zaza but i think thats asking to much.

If we did KG for Smith/ Hinrich

Rondo/Hinrich
Allen/West?/Wafer
Pierce/Green
Smith/Green
ONeal/MLE?

Get a couple of big men through free agency. This makes our team still great defensively and gives us a little more tempo on the offensive end of things. Plus gives us a defensive minded combo guard that can run the point and has been to the playoffs.

I think that's right.  Unfortunately, there's not a Shaq replacement available on the market.  Dalembert would be serviceable, but he'll be coveted.

If you make a deal centered around Garnett for Smith, the Celtics would be lucky to make the playoffs, probably a 6th seed in the east, and they would be eliminated in the first round. Having Smith and Rondo on the court at the same time is a huge offensive liability.
