I think he and his agent are going to be very disappointed as they wait for these big contract offers to come in

Let me just say that I am a staunch defender of The Trade. But man, what I would give to go back in time and somehow swindle OKC into taking Davis and not Perk.

Nice! 100th TP for you!

Try to trade him. Let him walk.  He'll probably get a nice payday from someone.

Then watch him eat himself out of the NBA.

I can't remember a Celtics player who seemed to try so hard to alienate himself from the fan base.

BBD should be a fan favorite.  At times, he's been the hustle player that we all love to root for.

Unfortunately, more often he's the guy who resists what the team asks him to do, the guy who injures himself, the guy who is looking to get paid, the guy who wants a bigger role, the guy who can't stay in shape, the guy who wants to take more shots than Pierce and Allen, the guy who thinks he's better than he is.

I don't like the latter guy very much.  BBD has value off the bench, but his attitude and his mouth make a lot of people wish he'd just go away.  "Glen" can "be Glen" in another city.

I think you are 100% wrong.  Davis has been an amazingly versatile player for us, and has been willing to do what was needed.   It's just that simple.  We won't find another player who is so malleable easily.

100% wrong?  Let's parse my statements:

Quote
Unfortunately, more often he's the guy who resists what the team asks him to do,

Repeatedly in the playoffs, BBD refused to set screens, etc., and looked for his own offense.  Doc criticized him multiple times for this.  In his interview today, BBD took a couple of shots at Doc.  They may have been good-natured, and they may not have been, but the " . . . who is going to let Glen Davis be Glen Davis, not let Glen Davis be something they think he should be" and "I tune Doc out" comments rubbed me the wrong way.

Quote
... the guy who injures himself,

The dude hurt his hand getting in a drunken fight with a friend, causing him to miss a ton of games.  That's not even getting into the damage he does to his body by not getting in shape.

Quote
...the guy who is looking to get paid,

BBD has talked about his desire to cash in, and how basketball is a business, numerous times, including before he was drafted and before his last flirtation with free agency.  The "mentally distracted" comments are probably related to free agency, as well.

Quote
... the guy who wants a bigger role,

Again, Davis has talked about how he'd like to be a starter, and Doc has mentioned how a lot of the young guys have been about stats, rather than ubuntu.

Quote
... the guy who can't stay in shape,

This should be self-explanatory.  Numerous times, he's lost weight, only to gain most or all of it back.

Quote
... the guy who wants to take more shots than Pierce and Allen,

See, e.g., 2011 playoffs.  Rather than setting screens, BBD was taking jumpers.  From Doc's comments, it doesn't seem like this was the offensive game plan.

Quote
... the guy who thinks he's better than he is.

See above, collectively.

So, I think "100% wrong" might have been a bit of an exaggeration on your part.  Maybe 15% wrong, but definitely not 100%. ;)
Don't forget "the guy who's just waiting to become an all star and then wants to try out the NFL."

It's 100% obvious Big Baby doesn't take the game as seriously as he should.
That's sad to me that he doesn't take it as seriously. As I've stated before players in the NBA especially young players on horrible teams that want to win and take it seriously would kill to be on a team that has a guaranteed playoff spot and possible finals spot. Players would kill to learn and improve their game by learning from some of the best in their spot.
I mean you have Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce and the thing is they are willing to help you and make you better in order to make the team better.
I don't understand that and from comments recently said by Ray he wants to get in touch with the players so they can all keep in shape and get ready for basketball when the lockout ends. I would love to play for a team like the Celtics. Yea there could be issues, but the chemistry between the players that I've seen on this team is to me the best in the NBA.
BBD is confusing me big time with his recent attitude and it's been there since the beginning of the season. The thing is, some noticed and some just brushed it off.

I'm not a big fan of Baby, but I wouldn't mind seeing him back just to soak up a lot of regular season minutes and keep other players fresh. But I think that if you look at Baby and his agent negotiating a 2 year contract when they were offered 3 years when he was a rookie so he could cash in sooner alongside his never getting into good physical shape in that second year, that's a good indication of what you see from him.

Im sick of athletes saying "i got to do whats best for my family"...when Glen made that statement recently it told me he wants out of Boston. As a fan i want him gone.Thats probably the most dumbiest statement made by an athlete these days, especially when you've already made more money in a previous contract than most of us will ever make in our lifetimes.

Baby is a legend in his own mind.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Let him go wherever he wants. I loved what BBD gave the past couple seasons but with this kind of mentality, he's just gonna hurt the team more than help them.

Doesn't he realize that KG is on the brink of retirement and in a year or two he could be the Celtics' starter? He can't be patient? I guess not.

what kind of value do you think we'd get from a sign and trade of baby?

Depends on who'd end up with him.

Charlotte? I'd take back virtually any warm body they have, provided they weren't on a long-term contract. Najera, or Livingston, for example.

I think he realizes that Ainge doesn't see him as the future starter, which is what Ainge should be thinking if he is not a moron (and even a moron might understand that Big Baby shouldn't be starting).

I'm done with him.

I really don't know who he thinks he is. He is a rotation player. If he is a starter, it's on a bad team or a depleted one.

He does some things well, but when your best skill is taking charges, be careful what you say to the media. This isn't the first time he has had some bewildering comments, so I can't say I'm surprised.

I appreciate what he did for us the past four seasons, but if we have him back next season, my guess is Ainge whiffed on Plan A, B and C.

Glen Davis has had some amazing highs and tragic lows during his time in Boston.

I get the feeling that once Glen Davis gets the financial security he craves he will balloon up and never live up to whatever deal he gets.  He just comes across to me as a guy like that.
