22 points on .545 fg%, .474 3p%, 11.5 assists, 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals against the Lakers in the playoffs completely irrelevant?

Bingo. With Garnett continuing to shrink into his shell even more, Pierce only exploding offensively 1-out-of-3 games, and Ray about the same, the Celts need OFFENSE from their point guard in addition to assists.
The fact that Paul could score 22, while ALSO dishing for 11.5 assists is crazy. The Celts constantly got caught in late shot clock situations with only three options. Paul alleviates that. Rondo, if he had a team of four other running, athletic, high-flyers, would be perfect. But for this aging group of C's they need more offense from their PG.
Plus, next year at this time, who is gonna attract more free agents? Rondo or Paul. A Dwight Howard might look at the C's with Paul. He's not even thinking about it with Rondo as the centerpiece.
