In my opinion his success will depend on one thing: a mental commitment to playing defense.

He has the tools to be a good defender, and enough role models on this team.

I still think this puts his ceiling as #3 on a championship-level team, but it would make him a very good overall player.

As it stands now, he is a liability on that end. His offense will take care of itself, and even improve with good defense, given his skills in the open floor and Rondo's willingness to run.

The biggest benefit with him is going to be his ability or potential to guard the 3 spot (Carmelo, Lebron, Durant).

He is a triple threat when it comes to scoring- he can get to the hole, he can shoot, and he can post up pretty much any 3/4 defender in the low block quite well.

His biggest problem goes unnoticed- that is his HORRIBLE footwork.
This guy comes off and lands on the wrong foot when driving to the rim more than anyone I've seen in recent time.

Watch him closer if you don't know what i'm talking about.
His poor footwork affects his shot around the rim and his ability to finish when getting fouled- and I can't believe a coach of his hasn't tried to sort it out.

Tell that to Antwan Jamison

Yeah, but Jamison does it intentionally to fool defenders, and to help with his quick release.

He played PF in OKC and has been trying to stay out of the way of the folks in BOS, who were fuming because Ainge traded Perk. Talk about being at the wrong place at the wrong time. In OKC, he could have been much more but they had Durant. Now, in BOS, he's hated because Perk got traded away.

Hopefully, now that everything else has subsided, he can learn the ways of true, great basketball from the Celtics organization. The guy is long, fast and with some development, he'll be our very own matchup nightmare at both the 3 and the 4.

He's entering a contract year so he's definitely going to be motivated!

Like how Big Baby was motivated in his contract year?

The mathematician in me says "cmon.....he was good for a long time, then not so good for a little while. He's probably good, but just a little lost"

The viewer in me says "A little lost?  Dude! Mine eyes hath seen "LOST" and it is Jeff Green. Do you see him out there? Are there stats for that? Look at that! That is lost! I mean he needs a mirror to touch his nose and I think he's sober.  I mean does he even know what sport this is?"

In terms of offensive potential, I see Jeff Green being able to be a 17-20ppg threat as an undersized PF (however, a defense/rebounding liability) but only a 12-14ppg type guy as a starting SF (with above average defense and hopefully rebounding).

One of the reasons I like Jeff Green a lot as a backup forward is because the Celtics can use him as an undersized PF against other team's bench PFs where J.Green's defense + rebounding issues are oftentimes less of an issue than they were in Oklahoma vs starting quality PFs.

I think Jeff Green can create more shots for himself against 4s, but he still finishes at average efficiency.  While that's an (offensive) improvement over Baby, I don't think it outweighs his liabilities there, and thus I don't think he merits much time at the 4.

I like him as a 4 to match up against small ball units, but there he usually loses his offensive advantage, as he's usually defended by a player of similar quickness in that situation.

I like him more as a power 3, although I'm not crazy about his ability to contribute to the team as currently constituted.  His lack of ball skills makes him a questionable fit with the backcourt of Delonte + Ray (usually Doc's favorite bench backcourt): that group will struggle to consistently generate dribble penetration.  I love the big wing line-up with Pierce and Green, but that unit won't be able to see much time together (as Green will be Pierce's primary back-up).

I see Jeff Green as a very low impact player with us next year.  A la Marquis.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

He did look lost out there, but something has to be said that the guy went from being a starter at the 4 playing 35minutes a game on a young team to a backup 3 playing 20minutes a game on a veteran team...seems he had trouble adjusting to the role changes..

I would expect after a training camp he will be fully acclimated to his role....he has lottery pick talent and hes only 25, he has a big upside to give us consistent/solid scoring off the bench....too much last year we saw our bench blow leads becuase of lack of scoring(partially due to glen davis feeling hes a good jumpshooter)...

Jeff Green in danny's gamble to extend the Big 3's run by adding someone with lottery pick talent off the bench who can hopefully bring scoring

I just hope he stops playing with that deer-in-the-headlights look for starters.

Jeff Green is still a project imo. Thunder misused him by playing him at the 4. There's an adjustment period playing a new position. He needs to acclimated being a small forward. Guarding quicker guys, using his size to his advantage, working on footwork, working on his handles.... Its a process. Hopefully he is up to the challenge. I think its in Jeff Green best interest call his teammate Paul Pierce & learn from the best become his apprentice for the summer. Learn the ins & outs playing the 3, and working on his weaknesses.

let's not underestimate the value of training camp. I tend to dislike midseason trades or signings because those guys are often left clueless (with the exception of PJ Brown).

even with that Gasol trade, the Lakers were much better the following year rather than that year of the trade. I expect a spike in performance (not necessarily numbers) for JG next year, if we sign him.

Unfortunately, not only does he now look "lost," in boston he was EXACTLY the same player as in OKC: He was Never that good. He just played more minutes (he was on pace for 17th in minutes per game pre-trade), and thus his numbers creeped toward respectability, enough that people were fooled by the volume totals (much like Davis as a starter: it simply takes these guys far too long to get even decent looking numbers, numbers that are actually not that good when you realize how many minutes they play; good players either get such numbers in significantly less time or are able to put up significantly better numbers with huge minutes like Green's).

For example, it's easy to say Green went from 15.2/5.6/1.8 to 9.8/3.3/.7 and think he got worse. Unfortunately, this ignores the fact he just dropped from 37 mpg to 23.5.

So look at his per 36 minute numbers:
OKC: 14.8/5.4/1.8 with .8 stl, .4 blk, 1.5 to's on .437/.304/.818 shooting.
Boston: 14.9/5.1/1.1 with .8 stl, .8 blk, 1.4 to's on .485/.296/.794 shooting.

That is incredibly similar!

So unfortunately, it appears that this is who he is. He's been remarkably similar his whole career; he's almost exactly average across the board. Which is nice to have off the bench for sub-MLE money, but i think Green thinks he deserves much much more, simply because he has an overinflated reputation based on draft night position 4 years ago.

The fans just want to put the guy under a microscope because he was the main piece received in exchange for a very popular role player.  Green would have needed to become Jordan for the fans to shut up, and that's not going to happen.

If Green was a hall of fame player do you really think OKC would have dealt him for Perkins???  Green is a decent starter in this league or an excellent bench player (isn't this exactly what we've been wanting the past 3 years)???
