We don't exactly have a good history with failed #1 pick centers (Out-Of-Service Pervis and Michael Olawakandi).

I'm more concerned with what to do with a guy like Oden after next season.  If there is a lockout then there will be extended time for him to heal so next season might be okay, but when he becomes a free agent there will be some team willing to overpay for his services and long years of big money could either be a homerun or a LaFrentz.

What goes up must come down. Oden knees are meant for Basketball. Only matter of time before he re-injures those knees. But is he worth the risk even for a year...HELL YEAHHH!!

Dont know if someone already posted this but saw on HoopsHype that Greg Oden is on the Celtics radar. i for one, hope not. Too much money and dont know how long he can last or even play again.
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

What makes you think it will take alot of money given the risks you outlined?

I like it if it's a MLE or lower deal.

But you have to admit, it would complete the full circle from the mess that was 2006-07 under what would then have been considered the most unlikely of circumstances.

Hey Mr. Moderator, can we merge this with the other Oden thread?

With his health history, I would pass on him. No matter the cost.

yes Oden can be fragile and has been BUT did u see him in college!?!?!?! He was a freak!!!! and the little he has played in the NBA has been pretty good. If we can get him at a reasonable price, we should gamble a little it could pay off HUGELY!!!!

If he is healthy, he is a stud.  However, with all due respect to Greg Oden (he is a very nice guy), he hasnt been healthy since he played for Ohio St.

This could work out, but its more likely the Celts waste money on another Sam Bowie.

How close are the C's to contending right now?

If the answer is "very close", then I wouldn't gamble and I'd be looking at finding solid, reliable role players to round out the roster.

If the answer is "Chicago and Miami have soared past them and are now at a distinctly different tier", then I say we need to take a gamble.  There may not be a better 'upside' gamble than Greg Oden.

How would they get him?

Why wouldn't you sign him?  It's not like he has a history of being injured a lot.  It's also not as if Celtic fans aren't used to having their centers injured like Perk, Shaq and JO.

We'll just keep starting threads every so often claiming "Oden might be back by next week". No?

I say roll the dice and take a chance, low risk and potentially very high reward. With the superior strength of the medicine community in Boston I would feel a little better about his health.
