I think we should go after Oden, he cant be worse than shaq, AND if does somehow stay healthy he will be pretty darn good i think. He was dominant in college and brings a defensive presence....but thats if he is healthy

link talking about  C's possibly going after Oden
http://www.nesn.com/2011/05/celtics-can-salvage-big-three-era-by-gambling-on-free-agent-center-greg-oden.html
Loved this line in that article:

Quote
He's got time to turn things around. He needs a new environment, a new medical staff and a new lease on life.

Given some of the screw ups this medical staff has had what makes the author of this article think for a second that the C's medical staff is going to do something better for Oden than the Portland medical staff?

Hmmm, so Oden can play the part of Shaq sitting on the bench injured while we need him the most. Not thrilled about that.

OTOH, if he can somehow remain healthy(which I seriously doubt, I think he has bone structure problems that won't allow it), it would be a brilliant addition.

hehe, well somebody has to keep the bench warm if shaq goes elsewhere....i can't think of a worse addition to the team, simply because of this guy's unbelievable history of injuries...he would be great if he were on the court.

This is the type of bold, go for the homerun, move that I can see Ainge going for. If Oden remains healthy and productive, I realize that's a big if, it could have further implications in attracting FA's next summer. For example, if you're Howard, being able to receive max money from the Celtics, and joining Rondo, Oden, Pierce, and perhaps Green (if he is reasonable in his demands) has to be pretty enticing. Oden and Howard playing alongside each other, similar to the Howard/Gortat combo, would be amazing.

Ben Rohrbach Tweet: Grousbeck on offseason: big sign & trade a possibility, Celtics need more help at 2-3-4 & Oden is on the radar ("How could he not be?")

$8.7m quailfying offer

Portland way over the cap and stuck in a bad B. Roy contract.

We would have to offer perhaps both 2012 #1 and the Clips #1 protected or TPE and a #1 and Kristic (S/T).

Far fetched or did Wyc let the cat out of the bag?

Paul Allen has deep pockets. Crazy deep.

Unless Allen has soured on Greg Oden, the Blazers will tender Oden a QO, and probably match any other offer out there, without blinking.

I like hearing Wyc is on board with the idea of a "big sign and trade." JO's contract plus a S&T candidate could bring back an impact player.

I'd do this deal regardless, but the following equation should be taken into consideration:

Greg Oden + Celtic medical & training staff = 20 games a year.

You can't blame the Celtics medical staff on our players being old and doc overplaying our starters.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I think we can make the salaries work actually. Nenad Krstic S&T @ 5.5 million for 2 yrs (which is a fair contract) + Marquis Daniels' trade exception is financially sound under the old CBA.

Just as a side note, you can't combine the TPE with something else to match a player's salary.

You're right. I sifted through a thousand words of Larry Coon to find that out, but you're right.

I think Utah did it by trading for Jefferson last year.

Get the man some bionic knees and we'll be good to go.

Interesting. Healthy Oden would be great. I have no problem with the high risk high reward players. The options this offseason are limited. My only wish is we have to have a very solid back-up and feasible Plan B in place for when the inevitable happens.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

In my opinion, this is the one instance where all teams should wait until Greg Oden becomes a free agent as opposed to trying to trade for him now.  And I wonder when Oden is actually going to play next season.  If he isn't healthy by the start of the regular season, then a lot of teams could be hesitant to sign him to an extension.  Which begs the question: Why acquire him for one season?

The Jazz had a large enough TPE (from sending Boozer to Chicago) to slot in Al Jefferson.

i wouldnt mind oden on the team. looking at the available FA centers, nothing really appeals to me (unless you like undersized centers or yao ming) for the mle and other rfa's (like deandre jordan) will be nearly impossible to get. i'd rather try and get oden for a draft pick and s/t baby etc and sign someone like crawford to the mle.

i think some sort of rotation with oden/jo/shaq could be alright. the thing with oden is he has scary good potential at the c position.

A healthy Oden is a dominating center.  I hope for his sake (he's seems to be a very nice young man) that he does stay healthy for some team.
I would love him on our team, worth a risk.  Not sure I'd give up jermaine though, unless shaq shows he can give us minutes for a whole year I'd rather have jermaine as starter.  When Oden did come back he looked good.  I think Portlands group is good and if they can remain healthy they'd be smart to keep him.

if it doesn't cost us to much to get him, i'm all for it.
Outside of Howard, there are virtually no great centers around anymore.  To have a chance to trade for someone who could be just as good, then you got to take the chance. If you loose the gamble, to bad but you just can't pass the opportunity imo.  Best case scenario, the team is set for the next decade as contenders. That alone is worth the gamble.

Of course, he seems to be made of glass so the odds are against him and no way that the Blazers aren't going to wait another year.

man o man...the one consideration that is a non factor for me is giving up JO...that would be the least of my concerns, but it seems pretty high up on your list!
