would this officially end the discussion of Dwight Howard in 2012?
Nope.
If Oden plays well enough, sign and trade.
If Oden plays well enough and is healthy, I'd rather have him then Howard.
That would be playing more then well enough.
That would have to be playing like one of the top 2 C in the league.
I do think that's possible if healthy.
He wouldn't need to be better then Howard next year for me to rather have him. I believe Oden has the potential to be significantly better then Howard. He is bigger and has a much more varied offensive game. Not too mention younger. I do think there is a high probability that any time Oden will blow out a knee and be done forever, but he also might not. Big Z had a lot of earlier leg issues that he got over and a very long productive career.
I would take Howard over him.
Right now, Howard is the top C in the league. He is entering his prime. He has already proven to be a centerpiece for a team that appeared in the finals.
Oden, after what would be on healthy season, still has to many questions marks.
That's not to say a healthy Oden is a slouch. IMO healthy he is the second most athletic center in the league and the third best overall.
I certainly have no problem with that position and it is more then reasonable, for me I'm a big risk, big reward kind of guy.
