I want to start off by saying I love watching Rondo and I think he's a great fit for the Celtics.  However, what if OKC loses to Memphis this year and OKC decides they need more of a traditional PG to set up Durant, Harden, etc. and offers Westbrook for Rondo.  Would you make that trade?

So after OKC realizes that their team would be better with Rondo than Westbrook you want to trade for him so we can watch him not pass the ball to the big three every game? Seriously?

I seem to be in the minority on my Rondo view. . . I don't want any other point guard other than Rondo. He runs offenses arguable better than anyone else. He plays hard when it matters, and can get you nearly a triple double. He's smart and committed and only needs to improve his shooting. I feel that we have the best PG ofr US already.

The only PG's I would want instead of Rondo are CP3, DWill, or Rose.

In that order.

I may be willing to part with Rondo for an inferior PG like Westbrook if we got more pieces that can help us.

I would argue that i would take these 3 before westbrook no doubt, but i disagree that overall westbrook is that inferior to rondo, if at all. 22 pts,8 assists, and 5 boards a game seems pretty complete to me!

Overall?

Rondo is a better passer, rebounder, defender, and leader.

Westbrook is a better shooter.

If you think jumpshooting is that much more important than any other facet of the game, Westbrook is you man.

Rondo is probably the worst shooting PG in the league

Is Westbrook the worst at anything for a PG? He's not Steve Nash on defense and he's actually  a good rebounder and an above average defender.

Rondo's fg% on his jump shots is close to average. How sure are you that nobody's worse than him?

I would consult the Celts med staff about how bad Rondo's elbow is. Then whatever they said I'd do the exact opposite.

Without even thinking twice. Rondo, while tough and gritty at times, is too one dimensional. You can always coach westbrook to distribute a bit more, but you'll never teach rondo to shoot.

I'm not sure why people continually describe a player who's the best or near the best out of all point guards in defense, passing, rebounding, finishing around the rim and running an offense as "one-dimensional". That's not how I generally use the term.

TP. That's not how I generally use the term either. I don't see how anyone can call Rondo's game "one-dimensional".

He'll be fine.

No surgery, whole summer (and hopefully that's all) to heal.

Let's just be glad it was his non-shooting arm, don't want anything messing up his bread-and-butter jumper.

I don't like Westbrook, and basically I don't like the way OKC plays (it's a selfish two men game..).

Bring CP3, please!

Rondo is the best passing and defending PG in the league.

Is Westbrook the best at anything?

I'd say that Nash is the best passing PG in the league.  And if I had my pick of PGs in the league to defend an elite pg on the last possession of the game, Rondo would rank probably around 3rd.

Westbrook is a better overall player than Rondo I think.  I think this was clearly shown in November when Westbrook led a Durant-less team of bums to a victory over Rondo and a stacked celtics team IN BOSTON.  Westbrook clearly showed he's a better player than Rondo that game.  I haven't had a doubt since.

For a "ball hog," Westbrook sure does get a lot of assists.

In the playoffs he is averaging about 2 assists lower than he did in the reg season by playing selfishly. It has costs them a couple of game too.

So, let me get this straight. The game in Boston, where Westbrook scored 31 and OKC won showed he was a better overall player than Rondo, and not the game at OKC when Westbrook scored 16 and the Thunder *lost*. Makes sense, I guess. Luckily Rondo was suffering from plantar fascitis at the time or we may never have known for sure.

Westbrook's 2 game totals to go along with those points? 16 assists and 15 turnovers. Now *that's* and all-around player.

Are you serious?

Rondo and Nash are clearly the two best. You can take the 38-year-old, I'll take the 25-year-old. Nash is more consistent though, I'll give him that.

How can you put Rondo third "defending an elite PG in the last possession of the game," and not name them? Maybe because they don't exist? If they do, they are yours. I'll take Rondo for 48 minutes a game, 82 games a year.

And did you really bring up one game in November? I guess there isn't a doubt in your mind that a Durant-less Thunder team are better than the C's? Besides, Rondo fouled out that game IIRC. Joke of a game, bigger joke of an argument.

It's definitely an interesting question and I found myself thinking about it during the game last night.

I doubt we'd have those long scoring droughts with Westbrook, but Rondo has been making the Big 3 look better than they are for about a year and a half. All 3 of them, imo. I just wish that Rondo didn't get hurt so we could've seen how good we truly were this season.

People like to act like Westbrook isn't a good passer, but he did average 8 assists a game for the last 2 seasons.

Something to consider is that Westbrook is 3 years younger than Rondo and would probably command more money on the market than Rondo's current deal is. I need more time to think about it.  ;D

Well, Rondo's assists totals in the post-season are almost as down as much from his regular season average. Surely we wouldn't say Rondo has been playing selfishly?

Westbrook is 22 years old, in his third season. He has room for improvement in that aspect of his game, and to think that he wouldn't is a pretty bold statement.

That said, in terms of contracts, I might prefer Rondo at this point. He locked up for the next five years at a reasonable rate. Westbrook will command a big contract in the near future.
