  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
An all time hockey draft would be sweet. Maybe College Hoops.

Shotgun no blitz Corliss Williamson.

Can I take Grant Hill and Jalen Rose?

I see chemistry issues in your future. Bad fit, that.

Shawn Kemp is a guy who might look underwhelming statistically, but man was he a pleasure to watch.  It's a shame those Sonics teams never won a championship.  (Of course, I can say the same thing about the Suns and the Jazz, too, two other great teams that ran into the Jordan buzzsaw).
The defense Kemp provides at PF is very impressive.

The quickness and agility to defend quick fours like an explosive young Charles Barkley + the ability to switch onto perimeter players and cover the effectively + the size at 6-10, 240lbs, to cover more physical interior scorers + the shot-blocking presence at the rim.

Shawn Kemp hits all the right notes for what you want defensively out of your power forward.

Then throw in his excellent rebounding and quality complementary offensive skill-set (exceptional finisher, great in transition and pick and rolls, decent jumper, useful post scorer) and you have yourself a wonderful role player.

I think next year we should do a draft with no active players and no HOFers.  Now that would be an interesting collection of teams.

That sounds great. Difficult. But great.

No love(or hate) for the paul Silas pick?
I thought it was too early for Silas.

Quality player though, high level defender / rebounder. He'll be an asset for your team. I just thought there was better talent on the board.

Seventh Round Picks

My favourite draft selection was Tracy McGrady. I think he is an unbelievable talent to get at this stage of the draft and would rank him ahead of several SGs already taken.

Also loved the Shawn Kemp, Sidney Moncrief and Walt Bellamy pickups in the seventh round.

Dennis Johnson and Bobby Jones will be very nice glue guys.

Sixth Round Picks

I thought the Grant Hill, Artis Gilmore and Kevin Durant picks were excellent value.

Rasheed Wallace, Billy Cunningham and James Worthy will all make great glue guys.

------------------------------------------

I greatly disliked the Glen Rice pick.

Too limited in the number of ways he can contribute + too much of a liability in terms of defense and rebound to be picked as a rotation player in this environment.

Similar issues with Chris Mullin albeit to a lesser degree.

In a game where there is so much individual talent, I think players who lack hustle, who lack the ability to make plays in terms of defense + rebounding ... will have difficulty relative to the other players at their respective positions / roles.

Enjoying the idea of a super-sized frontcourt in Philadelphia with Artis Gilmore at center, Dwight Howard at the four and Dirk Nowitzki at the three spot.

Keep Michael Jordan in the backcourt and plug either a playmaking PG (in order to get two ball-handlers, passers, playmakers on the floor) alongside him or another big sized wing (to create even more matchup issues and stronger rebounding + team defense) in a big backcourt.

That would be an imposing lineup combination. Difficult to play against.

Intriguing idea ... definitely worth a TP. ;)

What I liked today:  Most recent trade for Portland (getting Moncrief & Webber), Hal Greer, DJ, Kevin Durant, Alex English, Wes Unseld, Walt Bellamy

What I didn't like: Billy Cunningham, Mitch Ritchmond, Derrick Rose, Glen Rice

What I'm not sure about: Earl Monroe, Paul Silas

Surprised that you don't like Derrick Rose, Reigning MVP in the 7th round. I don't think there was a more talented player out there and for my money I can't see any old timer staying in front of Rose.  His strength/quickness combo is something rarely seen.

But again I can be a bit Naive, when it comes to the old guys.  I just cant help myself from acknowledging the bigger faster stronger generation of athletes that are out there now.

Also, I assumed i was drafting whoever took the SAT's for Rose as well.  Did I have to specify that?

I can see Howard at the 4, but I really think Dirk would struggle at the wing.  I don't think he has the quickness to guard small forwards, and moving him to the 3 would take away his biggest strength: the ability to stretch the floor as a big man and to bring opposing bigs outside.

As President of the Glen Rice fan club let me defend him:

I think his defense and rebound (4.4 rebounds per game) are both average.

As far as great seasons go, I think Rice's 96/97 campaign is often overlooked. Again, 26.8 points per contest on .477 shooting, and .470 from 3 on 5.6 attempts per game. Offensively, a complete assassin for the entire season.

For my team, it's pretty much just about spacing. Having a shooter that doesn't need the ball, and is comfortable catching and releasing. I've had him pegged as the perfect compliment to  my team ever since I drafted Wade.

I largely agree regarding Glen Rice.  It's hard to discount 27 ppg on 47% 3PT shooting, but Rice was a liability in terms of rebounding (an anemic 4.0 boards in 42.3 minutes, which may be the worst rebounding by a SF ever), and he wasn't much of a defender.

I like Mullin, though.  He brings very good scoring + very good efficiency + average rebounding + good passing.  He's a guy you can plug in and he's going to make smart decisions on offense and who will move the ball.  Mullin was at least an active defender with quick hands (thus, a lot of steals); I don't think he'd be a huge liability there.  If Dirk can cover the 3, Mullin has to be able to, right?

I guess I did turn a blind eye to the minutes per game, huh?

Oh well, still love the guy and I'll defend him to my death bed. Which will probably be a super sad death if people are still arguing about Glen Rice w/ me
