When can we pick coaches?

A couple have been picked already ... I'm not sure whose turn it is, but here's Nick's post and the schedule:

NBA seasons only.

Coaches round starts at 4:00PM and are in this order:

1. Memphis Grizzlies - Moranis: Red Auerbach
2. Boston Celtics - 33-00-32
3. Denver Nuggets - mgent: Bill Russell
4. Los Angeles Lakers - GreenFaith1819: Doc Rivers
5. Chicago Bulls - nickagneta
6. Oklahoma City Thunder - KCattheStripe
7. Miami Heat - Rebus Rankin
8. Atlanta Hawks - WeMadeIt17
9. Indiana Pacers - StartOrien
10. Dallas Mavericks - Rondo2287
11. Portland Trail Blazers - Redz
12. Philadelphia 76ers - Bahku

There really is no time limit on selecting and so this basically goes until the end of the draft next Friday. If you take more than 24 hours to make a selection, I might start bugging you for a pick. You can pick anyone who was ever a head coach or assistant head coach in the NBA.

Now before questions start being asked about chemistry between coaches and player and what system they will run and does that make that coach a bad fit and yadda, yadda, yadda, again, that's all subjective. Some might feel the coach is but window dressing others may put supreme importance on the coach. Let's just leave it at that, huh?

We should keep track somehow.

I just selected Doc Rivers, so I guess Nick is next. I'm not sure if he's ready yet. He stated he was on travel earlier.

The Ben Wallace against Shaq thing is pretty similar to the old Kendrick Perkins as a Dwight Howard stopper argument:

In the 2003/04 Finals Shaq averaged a little less than 27 points on 62% shooting percentage and 11 rebounds per game. The points and fg% were higher than his season average - even above the season before that - and his rebounds were about the same (11 compared to 11.5). The only stat that plummeted was blocks, which is pretty defensible when he's matched up against the Wallace brothers

Those numbers were definitely his strongest in the entire playoff run.

So while Wallace definitely was instrumental to the victory, the idea that he was great against Shaq is a bit of a folk tale: in actuality he was more effective against Wallace.

I'd take Dennis Rodman over Ben Wallace ten times out of ten.
If you're talking about at the FT line.

Defensively I've always seen them on the same level, but 100 levels above everyone else.  Too hard to compare them in different eras.  What makes you say Rodman is the automatic winner?
Rodman was far more versatile a defender especially early on in Detroit.  He would guard a SG one possession and the next would be guarding a C.  His range defensively was incredible and frankly unmatched in NBA history.  He is also by far the best rebounder in NBA history (when pace and league average is accounted for).  Wallace is essentially a poor mans Dennis Rodman.

But I'm not sure if Rodman could slow down Shaq or Wilt. At 6'7" and about 210, he was 2" shorter and 30 pounds lighter than Ben.

Ben works great for me vs the Shaqs and Wilts. If Ben stymied Shaq back in the early 2000's then I have faith that he could slow him down for this draft.
There is video of Rodman guarding Shaq.  He actually held his own quite well against him.

Yeah, no doubt...but those extra 2" inches and 30 pounds goes a long way.

I guess Rodman was called "The Worm"....Ben is called, well..."Big Ben." Nick had a need for Dennis, and I had a need for Ben.

Either way, Lebron's going to have issues driving the paint. He may get past Magic, Jerry, Rodman or my backcourt, but then he will waltz (Travel?, j/k) into the waiting arms of Walton, Reed, Kareem, Ben, or KG.

That is (IMO) Lebron's only issue I see, even in real life - and that is finishing in the paint. I could very well be proven wrong (DAL has Tyson and Haywood), and if I am I'll come back and revisit this.

Doc was even considered worst coach of the NBA one year.

But he works for me. In those years he was considered the worst, he did not
have the talent (ORL - with Grant Hill hurt most of the time). Give him KG, Ray, Paul, etc - and now he is recognized as
a winner.

We all know he was rumored to be going to MIA. That is what it means to have
some horses to ride as a coach.

Phil had the horses.

Red did, too -  to a point.

I chose Doc.

Well I see your point and absolute respect coach as a full of dominant stars coach
To be honest youre not giving him Green and Scal, so it could work  :)

So while Wallace definitely was instrumental to the victory, the idea that he was great against Shaq is a bit of a folk tale: in actuality he was more effective against Wallace.

But that was the key - all I needed is yet another person that would be instrumental in a series vs Shaq.

And Ben was quite active back in the day. And while no one could stop Shaq completely, Ben was a presence and certainly a fine rebounder during that 4-1 series victory vs LA.

Now - could DET have won without Big Ben?
