  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
BTW,

Alonzo Mourning 99-99'

20.1 ppg, 11.1 rebs, 3.9 blocks

Yeah but guys were smaller back then. Imagine what he'd do against modern athletes fueled by modern performance enhancers and reruns of Khloe and Lamar. Alonzo wouldn't have stood a chance. Pas une chance.

If Alonzo Mourning was still running right now he'd be dominating the unisex perfume market with a perfume line called "Za"

You vondruke. He'd call it 'Zo: Poor Home'

And it would be scrumptrulescent.

I don't see any disadvantages to the 2008 Pierce.  He was still the same player, just with less usage.  He drove just as much, he dunked just as much, he still his signature jumpers whenever he wanted, and I think he even got better at shooting 3s competing with Ray instead of Toine.

The only argument I could see is that he was no longer the best in the league at getting to the line.  However I think a big part of that was simply because the refs stopped giving him the same respect.  They moved on to younger superstars.
His efficiency in many areas is not as good in 2008 as it was in 2001.  It isn't about just volume.  He turned the ball over more, rebounded less, stole the ball less, blocked the ball less, and had nearly identical shooting efficiency.  His DRTG was worse, though his ORTG was better.  He was also a better passer in 08.

But the real thing is, by 2008 Pierce could not play SG.  He had lost a lot of his lateral quickness and could no longer keep up with opposing SG's.  On a team with Lebron James, I can't have the slower Paul Pierce.  I have to have the SG not the SF.
Really?  Even though he played more minutes at SG than SF the year before (06/07)?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I wouldn't exactly call that season a success though.

NARUTOS GRADES

HOW YOUR PICK RANKS

ROUND 4   Thursday May, 26, 2011
1:00   1. Memphis Grizzlies - Moranis - Traded to Dallas - Bob Pettit

Good pick, Pettit is interesting. But even if hes indeed a  great pick and match for the team, the year dilema will be consider all the time.

8/10

1:15   2. Boston Celtics - 33-00-32 - Patrick Ewing

Wonderfull value, here, for one of those players whose lacks of championship prevent him from being top 20 player. Still a delight to watch in his prime and a great fit in this team

9/10

1:30   3. Denver Nuggets - mgent - Elvin Hayes

Mixed feelings at this point BUT
21.8 points and 12.1 rebounds per game in 21 playoff games
and being a champion oput of the powerhouses.
give him extra points.

8/10

1:45   4. Los Angeles Lakers - GreenFaith1819 - Joe Dumars

Best player in this round. Period

9.5/10

2:00   5. Chicago Bulls - nickagneta - Willis Reed

Beat the lakers 4 straight game in a series, gives him Nowitski binkie status.

8/10

2:15   6. Seattle SuperSonics - KCattheStripe - Jason Kidd

A little early for him in my humble oppinion specially with Isiah still there

7/10

2:30   7. Miami Heat - Rebus Rankin - Isiah Thomas

Better than Kidd in this format and probably will be better forever. great pick here

9/10

2:45   8. Atlanta Hawks - WeMadeIt17 - Ray Allen

I like the pick but not that much him in this team.
So....

8/10

3:00   9. Indiana Pacers - StartOrien - Alonzo Mourning

Early for him, Great 3 man rotation but Wade without great help will die in this format, I see this as a work in progress

7.5/10

3:15   10. Dallas Mavericks - Rondo2287 - Traded to Memphis - Paul Pierce

A younger pierce can shine at SG in this format, I want to see him guarding Kobe.
An Older Pierce Match and gets over LeBrons best
I like the pick

8.5/10

3:30   11. Portland Trail Blazers - Redz - Nate Thurmond

Who cares, only Redz oppinion Matters

Now My vote is

8/10

Dont like him here but I see that when a player is capable of 42 rebounds a night from time to time.

3:45   12. Philadelphia 76ers - Bahku

Dont be bad thinked with narutos image, Its a fun one... :D

You'd have to find those instances during 01-02 Nick I don't really remember any other than clashes with Slick Rick. But that's not something I'd hold against any player. They should have clashed with that egomaniac who was out of his league in the NBA.

Either way I don't think anyone can perfectly follow the one year rule. This situation highlights that exact interpretation of that is incredibly subjective.

I stand by earlier comments, I think there's an alarming drop at the center slot after Zo.

I have a hard time seeing Isiah succeeding in a situation where he's not heads and shoulders the best player on his team.

Yeah because he got hurt.  And I wasn't saying he should pick that season, just that I don't think Pierce lost that much speed between 23 and 30, and definitely not enough that he wouldn't still be an extremely productive SG, even though he's ALWAYS been a better SF than a SG.

I like Kidd slightly over Isiah in this format, but I can't say I agree with him not succeeding. One of, if not the, best point guards of all time, and an unbelievable competitor.

Well, also lets point out that Charles Barkely, probably the second or third most talented player of his era besides Michael Jordon, with his 29 points, 11 rebounds, 11 free throw attempts and 58% shooting is a pretty great 'help' to Dwyane Wade.

Was hoping that Zo would fall into my lap next round. Would be a perfect fit on my team at the 5 with the defense he plays.. Looking for a decent defender down there wonder who i could nab.

Pierce can run circles around chuck before he notice
 ;D

Not to mention Wade facing Ray, or stockton AND Kobe in their primes at the same time probably becomes loco
