The whole question after for 2012 is what team Dwight would go on, and how he would make that team instant contenders. Personally, I hope he goes somewhere else

I just don't think he is an impact player. Yes he has impressive stats but he's not a good leader. Like when he dominates with his 20-20 games, its not infectious to his teammates and doesn't influence the outcome of a game

Also, I think all of his talent derives from his athleticism. He has no real skills/go-to moves. And his defense is based on him jumping the highest to block a shot. Doesn't have that mature/dominating personality to lead a team IMO

I much rather have Marc Gasol. This guy is extremely skilled, and a team player. He is mature enough to handle pressure situations, and can win you a game in the clutch with his dominant post moves

This guy is a bear, just towers over everyone. He's actually bigger than Howard. A better passer too. May not be that athletic marvel but he is a prototypical big man which all teams need

I am going to take the physical freak of nature that has already carried a team (Hedo, Lewis, Nelson, I forget the starting SG) to the Finals.

Dwight Howard: 22.9 PPG, 14.1 RPG, 2.4 BPG

I'm confused. I thought players play the games, not stats

Howard's stats, like Lebron's, combined with all the wins under his belt are very relevant to point out.

Sign me up for the physical freak at center.

Can u imagine if Memphis had Howard instead of Gasol?

Correct.

Stats are the numerical results of that play.

According to that, he is twice the player on the court.

By the eye test, he is the superior player while Gasol is a clog on a team with more talent.

Lets see Howard play alongside Zack Randolph. Then we'll see how his points and rebound numbers look then. Thats why I'm not a stats-freak. Its always skewed by the circumstance

I am going to guess Randolph's rebounding numbers are going to take a good sized hit.

I might (and I mean might) raather have Gasol if you can get him at a bargain or at a very reasonable salary. If we are talking from a pure talent standpoint there is absolutely no way you don't take Dwight Howard over him in any and every scenario.

By the way shooting guard for Orlando that Finals year was Courtney Lee

Was just going to say the same thing.  Yes stats don't always show a good comparison in players, but when there is that large of a difference, you usually can stop the comparing right there.  If you swap Gasol and Howard right now, what happens? Memphis improves and Orlando goes backwards.  Howard is an all-star center, Gasol is a good starting center, but he's not an all-star.

TP.  8-9 mil a year for Marc Gasol would be a much better deal than 20+ for Dwight.
CelticsBlog DKC Pelicans
J. Lin/I. Canaan/N. Wolters
E. Gordon/A. Shved
N. Batum/A. Roberson
A. Davis/K. Olynyk/M. Scott

Only depending on who else is on the roster.  Rondo's game fits much better with Howard's game than it does with Gasol.

Yeah you have a point
But a better player does not always mean the best option
Gasol moves the ball around more, picks his spots to score within the team structure. Howard on the other hand is a ball dominator in the post, and not a good passer. Theres a reason why he had that 46 and 19 game against Atlanta and still lost the game

Stats look pretty when you wanna make the all-star team, but I much rather have a center who plays within a team. And Gasol is above-average player who can only get better in my opinion

The guy who "isn't an impact player" led his team to the NBA Finals.  The other guy is going to lose in the second round.

The only thing Marc Gasol really does better than Howard is shoot jumpers and free throws.
