I rather have Marc Gasol then Dwight Howard

The guy who "isn't an impact player" led his team to the NBA Finals.  The other guy is going to lose in the second round.

The only thing Marc Gasol really does better than Howard is shoot jumpers and free throws.

I thought shooting jumpers and free throws were the true measure of a player's worth.

Thus, the reason many believe Chris Paul and Deron Williams are head and shoulders above Rajon Rondo.

Osirus, you had a chance to get out and failed miserably (IMO).  No, gasol doens't have more upside than howard.  Howard right now is tens times more valuable that gosal will ever be.  Howard will go down as one of the all-time great centers in this league and is on par with lebron and kobe as the most impactful players in the league today.

In fact, I have said for a long time that I would take howard over any other player in this league to start a team today.  I take him over lebron, rose, wade, you name it.

when you factor in cost and who helps the players around him more, I think gasol is a better fit...having a guy that can't shoot free throws at the end of a close game is a big problem also.  i don't think howard is worth the money he will command.

I don't think his athleticism is going to fade as quick as you expect.  He isn't Shawn Kemp or Darryl Dawkins, he's not going to eat himself out of the league.  Dwight Howard is in better shape than either of those two were throughout their entire career.  I like Marc Gasol, he's a nice solid player and I really dislike Dwight Howard.  I can't stand him, but he's just a better player.  His post games aren't great, but they aren't bad either.  I think you're over-rating Gasol's post game and under-rating Howard's.

If Rondo could get 200 or so dunks & lead the league in shotblocking & Rebounding he would be the best PG in the league. But, if he did all that I would just make him the best 6'1 Center of all-time. Until then he needs to learn how to make jumper

I just don't think he is an impact player. Yes he has impressive stats but he's not a good leader. Like when he dominates with his 20-20 games, its not infectious to his teammates and doesn't influence the outcome of a game

Also, I think all of his talent derives from his athleticism. He has no real skills/go-to moves. And his defense is based on him jumping the highest to block a shot. Doesn't have that mature/dominating personality to lead a team IMO

Geez, you're just perpetuating the stereotype that Celtics fans prefer white guys.... 

But seriously, your best player doesn't have to be your team's primary leader and this past season has shown that the Celtics need more athleticism.

I would take Mark Gasol.  Dwight is the better player, but Gasol would give you 75 to 80% of the stats at half the price, 20% of the ego, 10% of the headache associated with that ego, the technicals and the flying elbows and probably about 1% of the joking when you should be serious and trying to win games.

I did the math and it all works out, trust me.

But Duncan was 3 years older because of his 4 years in college. So you don't take Duncan because he's older?

  I don't think that the age thing is a horrible argument when you're talking about him losing his athleticism while he's still in his 20s. It's also true that big men often improve when they're older compared to smalls. I don't think DH is a great offensive player by any means but he's certainly improved over the last year or two.

But Dwight Howard isn't Hakeem Olajuwon
unlike Dwight, he had a consistent reliable post game and produced in the clutch. Something I can't say for Dwight
