Glen Davis is the Celtics' 9th man.

The reason(s) he has been thrust into a larger role is (1) the injury to Shaquille O'Neal which removed JO from the bench (2) Doc Rivers overusing him.

Neither of which are Baby's fault.

Glen Davis would be an asset to this team if used in the right role.

It is Baby's fault when he keeps making the same stupid plays over and over again.

A coach's job is to put his players in positions where they can be successful.

Doc Rivers is asking far too much out of BBD and has been doing so all year long. Glen Davis is underperforming because of Doc Rivers' use of him.

Really?  You think Doc has specifically instructed that every time Baby happens to get an offensive rebound, he should always try and power the ball up over taller players no matter now many times he gets his shot blocked?  You think Doc has told Baby to get into the post and demand the ball, then do the extact same stupid "drive to the rim and get my shot blocked/brick the layup because I'm afraid of getting my shot blocked" move?  Has Doc spent every practice these last few years teaching Baby to be a black hole on offense who never even looks to pass the ball?

Wow, Doc's a worse coach than I thought.

Mike

While I agree with most of your post, if Baby can demand the ball and then get it on a regular basis with the big four then we've got bigger issues than Doc will ever be able to solve.

That was the most discouraging part of the last game. Watching the gassed starters default to Davis on 2 straight possessions. That can't happen if the C's are going to take this series.

Yeah, this team has developed a weird OCD quality on offense.  For example, one the problems Ray is having getting shots is that the guy guarding the screener is cheating out to deny the easy pass to Ray.  The obvious solution to that is for the guy setting the screen to fake the screen and then go to the basket.  But I don't think I've seen the Celtics do that more than once or twice in the last half of the season.  It's like they keep trying to force certain things to happen instead of just moving in the flow of the game.

In Doc’s post game interview of the 2nd New York game, a game where the Celtics blew a 10 pt. lead in the 4th quarter, he was asked if the reason he didn’t put JO back in the game, instead of going with Baby, had to with JO’s health, and he said no it wasn’t, and that they had quite a debate about the matter on the bench. In the third NY game, JO played the 4th quarter and the C’s ended the game strong, as they have been playing their best defensively with JO all along.

If JO’s knees were not the reason Doc didn’t go with him in the 4th quarter on Sunday, then it’s amazingly and costly bad decision making on his part, IMO.
