I think you guys are being too harsh on Rondo. Yes he ended with probably a report card grade of C but he started the season out averaging 14 assists a game. That has to get him an A. So if you look at his season overall, I would give him a B-. He did do enough to make the all-star team after all and with the high competition of guards in the east, that's something to be proud of.

And KG has been an absolute rock this season. Staying healthy, Dunking crazy on people. And so has Pierce. Dunking silly on people. I give them A's for the year.

Become Legendary.

Doc: B most of this is coming from his second half. A+ first half though.
Danny: C Can't really grade him till after the post-season
Pierce: A- Was mostly consistent this season
Garnett: B I wish he go into the post, stop settling for jumpers and he overpasses which really irks me
Ray: A- Ray Ray proved himself as 3 point king but not feeling his ball handling.
Rondo: B- Great start but Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. happened in the second half dude?
Shaq: I
Baby:  B- loved him in the first half, but the chucking is getting overhand. Taller, stronger players abuse him. I hate it.
Krstic: B Wasn't expecting much, exceeded expectations. check.
Wafer: C wildly inconsistent, some dumb plays, some great plays.
Bradley: C- Love his defense, needs more work though. Impressed by last game. Expect next season to be better.
Murphy: D I'll admit he disappointed me at first. liking his play as of late though
JO: I
Green: B He needs to find his groove. Still think he will be an X factor for the POs
Sasha: D looked good in last game
Arroyo: D Just insurance right?
Delonte: B When he's not injured he provides great defense and offense off the bench...when injured :/

I think there are two ways to grade, so I will hand out two sets.

The first way is the "Kindergarten Method." In this method, players are graded essentially for effort and relative to their own potential. This seems to be the way most players are judged by "Fan Masses." By this method, if your natural born ceiling is considered to be, say, a 60 and your on court contribution is a 60, you get an A+. By this method, if your natural ceiling is perceived to be 100 (doesn't matter that it IS, just matters about perception), but you only play at the level of an 85, you get a B. This despite the fact that the second player's on court contribution to actually winning is much much better than player A. This, generally, is the logic behind Rose over Howard or Lebron for MVP and the constant overrating of our own Glen Davis.

Pierce B+
Ray B
KG A
Rondo B-
Davis B+
Shaq C+
JO D
Green C-
West B-
Daniels B-
Krstic B+
Murphy D
Wafer C
Bradley D

The second method would be graduate/professional degree grading, where it doesn't matter what your natural ceiling/limitations are, it's the result that matters.
For example, if I were commissioning a family portrait, I'd much rather pay for one done by a guy who doesn't always do his best work than a guy recognized as, by far, the single greatest handless artist in the world...a portrait painted by the slacker is just going to be better hanging on my wall than one that is great...for a painter without hands.

So by this method, the player with a perceived ceiling of 60 who plays at a 60 gets a D- and the player who plays at an 85 of 100 gets a B. After all, player B just does more to get actual stuff that counts toward wins. Is player B more frustrating? Yes. Is player A more 'inspiring?' Yes. But player B just gets more done.
By the same token, I'm glad that Davis is phenomenal for an overweight, too short power forward...but the NBA doesn't curve scores for degree of difficulty, so the fact that there are dozens of low-paid players that do exactly what he does but make it look easier (or look like they aren't trying as hard) means Davis gets the same grade as them.

Pierce A-
Ray B
KG A-
Rondo A-
Davis C
Shaq B- (B+ when healthy)
JO D
Green C
West B
Daniels B
Krstic B-
Murphy D
Wafer C
Bradley D

Paul Pierce- A-. Probably the most dependable player on the team, but that wasn't saying much this season.  His shot has become more efficient but a lot of his athleticism has clearly faded and it seems to have hurt his ability to get to the hoop and the line

Ray Allen-A-. He had a brilliant season shooting the basketball until we decided to blow up the team.  Ray has probably struggled with the horrible deals more than the other two members of the Big Three as he is more dependent on his teammates.

Kevin Garnett- B+. Seemed to gain a lot of his athleticism back compared to last season.  With that being said, I think he's on his last leg in this league.  There is alot of hesitation when he changes direction and it's gradually getting worse.

Jeff Green-D+. Pretty useless.  He has played a few good games since he has come to Boston but he really hasn't been able to make himself a constant factor in the offense or a spark-plug off the bench which is what we need from him.

Shaquille O'neal-D. I've liked the little that I have seen from him but there is no way he is going to be able to meet the unrealistic burden that this team has placed on him.  He needs to be the dependable, starting Center giving us 20mpg.  Not likely.

Delonte West-C. I like Delonte A LOT....when he's on the court.  He seems to be the only player off the bench at times who has a clue.  Obviously, he hasn't been able to stay on the court for us either.  The guy is made of glass.

Glen Davis-C+. I appreciate his hustle every night, I'll say that.  He neeeds to become a smarter basketball player, though.  It was cute when he was young, but as he is getting more experienced, you just want to see him stop making the mental mistakes.

Nenad Krstic-C.  He is what he is.  He's a below average Center who was a throw-in on a horrific trade.  With that being said, he has supplied some offense on nights where we've needed it.  He's got to rebound if he wants to see the floor though.

Von Wafer-B-. Von is very similar to Big Baby but he isn't as valuable because he's a guard instead of a Forward.  He makes those same mental mistakes..but he's the most athletic player on this team and his ability to get to the basket is needed sometimes.

Rajon Rondo-B. Can we please not forget that you guys were shouting Rondo For MVP at the All-Star Break?  He was terrific until Danny decided to mess up our roster.  That's not an excuse for his play over the last couple of months though.  As the leader of this team, he needs to right the ship NOW.

Avery Bradley-D. Simply isn't an NBA Talent.

Jermaine O'neal-D. He has been hurt a majority of the year, and when he was playing, he didn't look good.  He looks better-conditioned since he's been back, but he really hasn't posted any numbers to backup the eyeball test.

Troy Murphy- F-.

Carlos Arroyo-C+.  Nothing great, but he isn't supposed to be.  The fact that he can actually come in and run the offense for 5 - 10 mpg while Rondo rests is important.

Danie Ainge - F- .  I hate you FOREVER for ruining the last season of this fantastic era!

Big 3:  A

JO+Delonte:  C-

Shaq: Tardy

Baby: D

Danny: F

How are you coming up with Danny's grade ?  Was he suppose to grab his crystal ball and predict that 3-5 players who would get major playoff minutes on any team would all get injured during the year ?

You have a stacked roster, allow a leagues best 91 points per game, had tons of injuries throughout a 55 win season, and your GM gets an F ?

You grade like my 10th grade English teacher.
It had something to do with going into the season having Marquis Daniels as our main backup wing and then half-way through the season destroying our long-built chemistry by breaking up what has been known for the past 3 years as the best starting 5 in basketball and probably the longest tenured as well.

So you overlook everything else he brought you ?

Is the grading scale based on one or two moves ?  Or the entire year ?
Um hello...  The end of the year is all that matters...  He could have assembled the most amazing roster imaginable and been the best GM of all time, but then if he screws it all up before the playoffs what does it matter?

I graded on what i saw, and I saw DA take a 100% unnecessary risk by gambling on the health of two of the least healthy players in the league this year.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

The Celtics went from potential lottery pick to nba champs in year one, finalist for eastern conference without KG year two and nba finals in year three because of danny ainge's foresight.  No way he gets an F in any season.
Some of you might not like the trade but it was as they say in the godfather "a business decision" and a good one

It's never a good "business decision" to dismantle the Eastern Conference champions and team who was favored to be heading there again.

We traded an old friend who didn't really help us to our good record this year for the most needed hole in our roster backup sf who can become starter once pierce retires and a 1st round pick.
The way to the finals is against carmelo, lebron and other sf.  PP can't play every game and wafer was next guy on roster.  Second part of trade is nate robinson who wouldn't be used much at all for krstic, 3rd string center.  Delonte back makes nate a towel waiver.
If JO, Shaq and Perk are healthy who is the least productive of the 3?  I see it as a good decision, maybe not the best timing but we can't go into the playoffs with 1 true sf.
