This is probably a weasel way to do it, but I'm giving a pre-deadline grade and a post-deadline grade:
Paul Pierce- A / A-. Paul has probably been the most consistent player all year. He's fallen off a bit from the beginning of the year, but he's been excellent all year long.
Ray Allen- A / B. Ray was having a career year until very recently, and he's been amazingly efficient. He has struggled fairly recently, though, as he's had a diminished role in the offense.
Kevin Garnett- A+ / A-. KG gets graded on a curve; he gets the A+ for being so much better than last year, and for coming out strong with his defense and rebounding. Like everybody else, he's struggled lately compared to the beginning of the year, but he's still had an outstanding year.
Jeff Green - N/A / B-. Green has scored at about the same rate as he did in OKC. He's a pretty good player, even if he's a "quiet" / "passive" one. However, he may be a bit overrated by some; at his essence, he's a middle-of-the-road scorer and defender (or perhaps a bit worse), and a poor rebounder and play-maker.
Shaquille O'neal - A- / inc. Shaq was absolutely awesome early on, and got progressively less productive, until getting hurt. However, he fit in extremely well with the starters. We need him back.
Delonte West - C / B-. I don't know if it's even fair to give Delonte a grade. He deserves a B+ / A- for the time he's been on the court. Unfortunately, he's been extremely injury prone and can't be counted on.
Glen Davis - B+ / B-. Baby is better when he has a clear role and doesn't try to do too much. Lately he's gone into "hero mode" way too much, but overall he's had a very good year.
Nenad Krstic - N/A / B. Krstic is as advertised: he's a pretty good offensive player, a poor defensive rebounder, and a poor defender. The one pleasant surprise has been his offensive rebounding.
Von Wafer - C / C. He hasn't been all that productive, but he's filled his role, and has shown flashes.
Rajon Rondo - A / C. Rondo played like an all-star... until late February. He's had nights recently where he's looked downright bad, and there's really no explaining it.
Avery Bradley - D / D. The kid has looked completely lost. His D is NBA-caliber, but he looks terrible on offense and in terms of court awareness.
Jermaine O'neal - inc. / B. He missed most of the year, and should have gotten surgery sooner. However, he's been looking good lately.
Troy Murphy - N/A / F. Is an "F" harsh? Maybe, but relative to expectations, Murphy has been horrid.
Sasha Pavlovich - N/A / D. Pavlovich has made absolutely no impact. I'd rather have Harangody.
Carlos Arroyo - N/A / C. Arroyo has looked solid at times, and poor at others. Hopefully he doesn't see any playoff minutes.
Marquis Daniels - B+ / N/A. Marquis looked great on both ends; he just fit in very well. His unfortunate injury was the turning point in our regular season.
Kendrick Perkins - A- / N/A. Perk gets credit for busting his butt, and looking great when he came back. He made a limited contribution this year, but he was a beast on the boards in the games that he did play.
Nate Robinson - C / N/A. The guy was a big part of locker room chemistry early, and the team's performance didn't suffer much when he relieved Rondo in the starting lineup. However, he wasn't a reliable backup PG.
Semih Erden - B+ / N/A. This kid crushed expectations. I thought he was going to be cut in the pre-season, and he turned into a very solid player.
Luke Harangody - C+ / N/A. He didn't play a lot, but he showed that he can stick around in this league. He had some really nice moments.
Chris Johnson - N/A / C. Hey, for a handful of games, he looked like he might eventually catch on with somebody.
Danny Ainge - B+ / D. Danny's pre-season moves were largely brilliant. Adding Shaq, JO, Delonte, and Wafer were very good moves. Danny gets scored down because he couldn't resign Tony (who would have been helpful this year), for the Avery Bradley pick, and for not signing an adequate backup to Marquis Daniels. Post-trade, I obviously score Danny way downward for the trade. I didn't like the trade at the time, and I don't like it now.
Doc Rivers - A / C-. Doc had this team playing like a cohesive unit early; it was the return of "ubuntu" in a big way. Lately, he hasn't been able to motivate the team, and has admitted that the team lacks an identity. It's up to him to have his guys ready.
