I can't emphasize this enough.  I'm literally smiling just knowing that I'm not the only one who feels so strongly about this topic.

I'll turn it off when they start talking about the Celtics, but beyond that, I am a huge Felger and Mazz fan.  They are the best in the business on Baseball, Football, and particularly Hockey (sports they actually know something about).

The new Big Show may give them a run for their money (Holley and Big O seem to bring out the best in each other), but when they aren't talking about the C's, Felger and Mazz are terrific.

I actually love BOTH drive time shows. I wish one of them would move 10-2, because both midday shows are TERRIBLE.

Felger doesn't just trash people for the sake of it. It is just his TONALITY...

Couldn't agree more about the midday shows.  Both of them are absolutely terrible, and it is clear that both stations have decided to save cash in that slot, and basically fight it out with mediocrity.

I've reproduced below the body of an email that I sent to Comcast on December 15, 2008, after Gary Tanguay had been used as a replacement play-by-play commentator. I've since learned that the man I referred to as a "dim-witted individual," is Michael Felger.

"I just watched the Celtics beat the Jazz. The game was very enjoyable, with one major exception. Gary Tanguay should never be allowed to comment, on television, during the game, in any capacity. His bombast, embarrassing obsequiousness towards his co-host, and demonstrable ignorance of both the game of basketball and non-Celtic players, render him incapable of doing anything but irritating intelligent viewers. Please re-examine the direction of your sports coverage, and make all adjustments necessary to ensure the debacle that occurred tonight is never repeated. While I would prefer that you eliminate Mr. Tanguay from your basketball coverage entirely, I will be satisfied if you merely banish him to the non-analyst, in-studio position he normally occupies, so that I can continue to ignore his existence without missing the game. Also, please fire the dim-witted individual who sometimes serves in Mr. Tanguay's stead, as that gentleman is, amazingly, even more inept than Mr. Tanguay."

I'm with you. I can't stand the guy. He freely admits he doesn't like or follow basketball, yet he spends days dumping on trading Perkens or the moves Danny and Doc make. I don't care if he doesn't know what he's talking about, but he should keep his lack of knowledge to himself.
Also I don't believe this whole it's an act stuff. I don't think he's well liked and I remember some other reporters talking on the radio that when he travels he doesn't go out with them. He prefers to be by himself, which is fine, but it doesn't sound like am act to me.

That's not totally true. He goes after Neely too. He is all over the Bruins.

He's the best radio guy in town by far. If that means attacking the "Green Team" for dumping all over JO and Shaq last year, then calling them saviors this year... so be it. He's right.

He goes after Neely until he is on the phone and then he puckers up big time.  He is spineless, trashes peeople when they won't talk to him.  Course that is the M.O. of the sportshub cause the morning show did the same thing to Dale Arnold.

Every single radio host, sports or talk radio, will question someone's moves and when they get that person on they're nice to them. I'd love for you to find a radio station that trashes a hometown legend then gets them on the phone and trashes them directly. It's not like Felger is the only one who does this. EVERYONE clams up. It's good for business and it'd be stupid for Felger to trash Neely when he's on the phone with them. People hating Felger for this is kind of odd. At least he asks them hard hitting questions compared to the other 2-6 lovefest show.

When does he go after Neely though?  He loves Neely.  He hates Claud, and to a lesser extent Chiarelli, but he rarely goes after Neely.

Felger is great I think anyway. Love his brutal honesty when it comes to calling out Greenteamers and their homerism. Like how Jermain O'Neil was garbage last year along with Shaq but once they dawned the Celtics Green they were world beaters. Gotta have a guy like Felger around.

I remember the night Big Baby got a concussion from Dwight Howard's elbow in game 5 of the EC Finals last year

And Felger was on CSNNE with Max, and he said Big Baby was a goof and was faking it just to be funny. Hahaha, like wow

I've never been so angry and amused at the same time. Thats Felger

Seriously...I hate that man so much, it's scary.

All he does is crap on the Celtics players, fans and organization everytime I hear him open his big, useless, fat mouth.

He is the most arrogant, obnoxious, unprofessional horses as* I have ever seen in my life.

Okay had to vent, sorry. But as a Celtics fan, I just find him VERY offensive and boycott every one of his shows.
I can't say I hate the man.  That's pretty strong.  However, he is no basketball expert.  I just wish he would stick with sports he knows.  Beyond that, he is bombastic, arrogant and too angry sometimes.  It's not always fun or thoughtful.  Tony Massarotti is far better, FAR BETTER, and I'm glad he's there to give some balance to that show.

tommy knows felger is a fraud. and tommy is never wrong.
I'd take Felger over Tanguay any day on any topic. Tommy was just trying to stick up for his guy. Then of course you have the genius commentary of Donny as well.  I think Donny and Tanguay are good for putting me to sleep, but nothing resembling sports commentary.

When was the last time you were like "Wow.  Tanguay and Donnie have really interesting and thought provoking insight. I could never have come up with that on my own. Wow they really understand this stuff. They really add to my understanding of the Celts?"

Cmon.

Of course you would take Felger over Tanguay, you two take very similar stances on alot of things.

Problem Felger and I both suffer from.  Misquoting. I said Sanchez totally outplayed Brady despite all the disadvantages and that we probably would have been better off with a high school quarterback like Jeff Driskel that night.

And I was right.   Felger and I can't help it sometimes.

Tanguay would be like  "Well the Patriots lost tonight. They didn't play their best. Hopefully they'll play better next year"

Felger   "What the hell happened to Brady?  Did you see him out there?  Did you see how he was totally out of sync? Refused to scramble when he had all day. Was just plain throwing the ball to the wrong place as though he didn't know the game plan?  He's never been like that before. There must actually be a reason. He hasn't won a playoff game in 3 chances now. There might be more of this before there's less.  What's the natural conclusion? What do we do for the future?"

Then it's all hater this, negativity that.

Felger is a real live sports personality. Tanguay is a puppet who wanted to be a muppet, but wasn't good enough and then failed to make in on Crank Yankers too.

Agree with you 100 %,  I love Felger, he tells it like it is, you need guys like Felger and Ron Borges around to balance out the Green teamers.  And Felger's right alot of the time, Randy Moss being the latest one and Brady's playoff struggles too.

But it's not just how he talks. It's the plain fact that he doesn't know enough about basketball to cover the Celtics and be a credible analyst.

He's a bum and really annoying
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.
