First of all Matt offended me by calling the USA the greatest country in the world and comparing CB to it. Hello, we're not all Americans, there are Canadians, Europeans and people from around the world who post here. Don't be excluding hommie.

Second, there are cliques and cool kids? I've been here three and a half years, why was I not told?

Not acknowledging Canadians is like not saying your cousins have a different last name at a family reunion..its all family.

Except you now need a passport to visit your family. ;D

I wish my family needed a passport to visit me. My border patrol would be intense.

Move to Canada...there is more to it than just snow, moose and maple syrup.

I'm almost positive that you're kidding but I would just like to point out that I said the US is one of the greatest countries... I didn't say it is the greatest country. I plan on taking a trip out to Montreal this Summer actually. I think Canada would be an awesome place to live.

I want to settle down in the Boston area but I also want to spend time living in 3 places... LA, New York City, and Montreal. This is incredibly ironic considering the three teams I hate the most in professional sports are the Lakers, Yankees, and Canadiens.  :P

People call this a good thread, and I guess it is in some respects (because people seem to be enjoying themselves), but at the same time I feel like it basically went nowhere.

The divide remains:  infrequent contributors largely see what the OP is getting at, volume posters largely have no idea what the former is talking about.  Lecturing happened, unsolicited advice was given (repeatedly), words were put in people's mouths... and nobody's minds were changed.  The thread was derailed multiple times -- accompanied by little apparent sense of irony on the part of the derailers -- with "old boy's club" inside-joking and image macros.  Finally, if a highlight reel of this thread is ever made, surely the TP-bomb rates #1:  is there any better example of the disconnect between community members than that?  I for one understood immediately why the OP felt insulted.

It was interesting, at any rate.

So, what would you like to see happen?

Here's what I'm trying to understand.

Are infrequent/new posters feeling like they should be an instant part of the comraderie on here?  To me, that's a far-fetched notion. You're probably not gonna feel part of it right off the bat.

Look at any aspect of life; starting a new job or school, hanging out with different groups of people, joining a sports team or club, etc.

It takes time to fit in & be accepted by those groups.  This place is no exception. You contribute, pay your dues, perhaps pop in more than twice a month and if you're posting quality stuff and engaging with other posters then you should become more of a part of the community.

It takes time to "fit in" to any situation.  Sometimes, I think there is a sense of "instant gratification" that people are looking for.  To me, its unrealistic to think you can just walk into a situation and be immediately accepted and praised.  It takes time. If you're posting quality stuff or just being funny, then eventually you're going to be noticed.

Nothing.  It would be nice if the low-posting underclass didn't exist, but there is no realistic way of changing the status quo.  I think that this is the natural order of things, and I've accepted it for what it is.  Specialized forums are almost always like this.

I just thought it worth pointing out that for all of the interest generated in this topic, we more or less treaded water for 15 pages.
