Also, why does it say I have 669 TPs?

I had six this morning.

It's another inside joke, I'd say.  In the past, when people have mentioned their low TP total as a source of grief (or whatever word you pick), posters have sometimes tended to "blow up" that member's TP total.

As a new member, I'd encourage you to read through some of the old threads in the Community and Comments & Remarks forum.  Between the two, it gives you a basic (if skewed) view of the history of the site, and most importantly, the members.

I actually didn't complain about TPs.  I said I don't care.  If someone can give me my six TPs that would be appreciated.

Actually, you should ask to be at 7 because I gave you one because I like the thread ;D

I think it just takes time to get noticed (ie the more you post, the more people notice you and your posts). As well getting involved in things like the various CB Drafts or the PAPOUG helps. Finally it does depend on how insightful or witty your posts are. Let's face it the really smart kids or really funny kids always get noticed faster.

As for cliques or inner circles, I know nothing.

posters with lower totals are agreeing with the op's observation, while high volume posters and mods are saying the opposite.

i say the truth lies somewhere in between (call me capt. obvious).

dont chastise the op or tell him he is wrong, etc.  instead provide words of encouragement and make him feel more involved, rather than pushing him away.

Actually a lot of people have given their views, most of which don't fall into your dichotomy. Some said it isn't true, some said its true get used to it, others gave explanations as to why it happens, etc...

I don't think people are pushing him away either, we're having a conversation with him. Though when he draws conclusions that are incorrect (about who posts, how much people post and how active the community is) I've disagreed and pointed out the errors.

I don't see whats wrong with disagreeing with someone.

theres nothing wrong with disagreeing with someone.  however, some of the tone and feelings of defensiveness is prevalent.

I think Rebus nails it here.

This is ridiculous.  By giving me 669 TPs with 120 or so posts that mod is mocking me.  Why?  Because some mod disagreed with me or thought my post was whiney?  TPs are stupid.  give me zero.  I don't care.

I am less likely than before to post outside of this thread because a stupid mod misinterpreted a post of mine and decided to deride me publicly in a way on this board that I cannot control.  How is that OK?

Okay, man, you're taking yourself *way* too seriously, but with this comment and several others in this thread.  I apologize if this is "pushing you away" or whatever, but you seem a tad bit touchy, and have jumped down multiple posters' throats in this thread.

Also, I'm not sure that calling mods "stupid" is the way to engender a lot of support around here, at least from the staff.

Take it down a notch.  This thread has been pretty light-hearted, and if somebody gave you a lot of TPs, just accept it good-naturedly, rather than making it your cross to bear.

Also, I'm not a new poster.  I just lurk a lot and take time off.  I've been reading this site for at least two years.

KCattheStripe: I misinterpreted your question.  My bad.

You also said that your lack of TPs proved your point. Which has a clear implication that you'd have more if your posts were paid as much attention as other posters.

i dont think that was their intent, however if i were in your shoes, i understand completely with why u feel this way.

i suggest just saying "whatever" and move on.....its not worth it.  just my 2 cents

I believe it IS stupid to manage the board in a way that mocks someone for introducing an interesting or controversial thread.

At least one other person has said this is the most interesting thread they've seen in weeks.  All of my posts have been thoughtful.

I get 669 bogus TPs for that?  Please give me one good reason.

Mocking?  You opened up a board for discussion on a topic.  You're going to get various point of views on the matter.  Not all that I assume you agree with.   It's an open dialogue.  I'm not really understanding what there is so much to be upset about in this discussion.  Posters "mocking" you?  Where is this coming from?

A few things:

1)  I don't care if you think something is stupid:  you're still not allowed to make personal attacks against members.  That includes mods.

2)  Wasn't it one of the mods who broke this off into a new thread and gave you a sounding board?  Rather than "shut you down" or whatever, it seems like they amplified your voice.

3) If you don't care about TPs, why do you care whether they're "bogus" or not?  As was explained, getting "blown up" with TPs is an inside joke, is meant to be good-natured, and pretty much confirms the irrelevancy of TPs.

4) Just an observation of human nature, but bragging about how smart you are and how much of a contribution you've made isn't a great way to get people to like you.

I'd recommend just going with the flow and trying to take yourself a little bit less seriously.  We all get wound up on here from time to time, myself included, but as KC so often reminds us, folks on the internet tend to take themselves a bit too seriously from time to time.  This is meant to be a hobby; we're not drafting a UN resolution here.

I actually would agree with him. He's said an opinion that a lot of new time posters agreed with him, and he's got various come backs from respectful to IMO disrespectful. And I think boosting up his TP - which might've been a lighthearted joke - does somewhat alienate him, in what could seem to undermine his overall point.

His point is that as a less frequent poster he somtimes feels alienated. For the most part EVERY infrequent poster has agreed w/ him. And the defense to these accusations have ONLY come from frequent posters in various levels of "calm down."

EDIT: I wrote this before viewing the last 3 posts.

i think the mockery stems from his mentioning of tps, then he got a huge amount...enough to make him stick out.  he wants his posts to be noticed, not his tp/post ratio.

i dunno, i really cant speak for him.  plus this isnt really my business, so i think im tapping out, lol

Posters are not mocking me.  I think the posts have generally been interesting.  Some mod as an inside joke gave me 669 tommy points half way through this thread.  I think that is out of line and asked it to be changed to what I've actually earned or just give me zero.

The fact that a mod would do that in a thread that is about whether or not this community encourages frequent posters to respond to other frequent posters while ignoring others proves the point that the forum is discouraging infrequent posters from participating.  How is giving me 669 bogus TPs not an attempt to mock me?  I didn't earn those TPs.  I don't want them.  The mods are ignoring my requests that the real number be reinstated.  That's antagonistic.

I also agree with dark lord.

I still agree mostly with Drake, but I'll definitely say I 10000000000% agree with this point, Roy.
