I know it's a long shot and probably a waste of time, but I have seen this kid play and when healthy, he is a beast.

Kristic is nice but If I could get my hands on Oden even with his injury issues, I would take him over Kristic.

Oden is another year away from being available (for the Celtics).

Portland won't let him go for an MLE offer sheet. Not at this point. It'll take a lot more than that to scare them out of matching that offer sheet. You'd need real cap space to make an offer large enough for Portland not to match.

I do wonder what his top offer will be. Probably something like 30 mil over 3 years?

Do you think Portland is going to give him a QO?  I don't think that is a lock.

Seriously, this guy is even more fragile than Delonte.

I'd only look into Oden at the right cost, but all reports out of Portland are that they can and will extend him for at least one more season.

If you want to take a gamble on an injury guy then I'll say it again, we should sign Michael Redd to a 1 year deal.

Low risk, HUGE reward.  If he somehow manages to turn his career back around he could end up being a Ray replacement.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I'd like a big who can play and not sit hurt. That would be such a nice change for this team.

Looking at it from a risk v. reward perspective, I would certainly take a run at Oden. However I'm not sure how much money I'd like Danny to throw at him. Of course the numbers will change after the new CBA but if he could be had for something in the ballpark of the mid-level exception (preferably south of 4mill) Its worth the risk. At the worst he's a contract to flip in a trade, at best he's a late blooming defensive center, somewhere in the middle he's a solid rebounder/enforcer of the bench who could set massive screens for our ball handlers.

I think so.

The own him one more year.  At worst, he becomes an expiring contract to trade. At best, he stays healthy and established himself as a top defensive C again.

My choice would be 'if the price is right'.

It seems unlikely though since it would require us to use the MLE, which we might need to sign someone else depending upon what happens with the O'Neals and whether we resign other guys.

The answer 'Only if we can't sign our own' seems the opposite of what we should do. We only sign Oden if we can resign Delonte and a big or two. Otherwise, we need our MLE for other people.

I also don't see us doing a 1 year deal since it would essentially be giving away money to watch someone recover. A Powe-like deal of one year and a team option for a second would make sense, though this would be for a lot more money.

If Oden gets his body in order like Hill did, he would be a great piece alongside Green and Rondo. Even if he can limit his injuries to Bynum-type injuries that can be played through, he would be a great value. Currently, Oden makes Yao look look like Andre Miller.

Definitely.

Their GM has already said they plan to do so.

I'll definitely take him, for the right price. Defensive minded centers are hard to find nowadays. He'll be the defensive anchor of our team for years to come if he can get past the injury bug.

The "at the right price" qualifier is too much of a cop out.  Anyone at the right price is a good signing.  The price is going to be something in the range of his QO I suspect ($8M'ish).  Even at $5M-$6M is too much in my opinion.  If he is bought out mid-season (next season) and available for real cheap, then OK, maybe.  It just doesn't make sense for the Celtics to take on such a high risk project right now.  We need reliable options to wrap around the core team.
