Seeing as he's made of glass, you can look through Greg Oden.

TP,  ;)

I would try to get Oden in two scenarios

a) as a free agent. I wouldn't offer him more than two years, and more than around 3/4 mil/year.

b) in a trade, if he takes the QO, he would be on a one year contract, right? If the Celts are not willing to pay what BBD will demand, wouldn't you sign & trade BBD and package him with the trade exception from Marquis trade + future 2nd round pick for a one-year-rental on Oden?

I think it would be a limited risk/ huge reward move. If he doesn't play well, he'd be an expiring contract, if he does, the Celtics will have the cap space to sign him after giving him the chance for a fresh start.

I'd take a chance.  In spite of the injuries early in his career he still is a talent and could help a team if he can stay healthy.

Yes. Full MLE or overpay in 2012 if you need to. Getting Oden without giving up anything would be huge. He'll be a top center in this league for the next 10 years.

Is this a league where they've developed leg transplants?

You think he's cooked at 23?

Cooked as a top ten center? Absolutely! Cooked as a legitimate NBA player? More than likely. Dude is never going to be healthy.

Does anyone think this could actually happen? Dude has played 82 games in 4 seasons.

Grant Hill only played 47 games in 3 seasons ( '00-'03 ) and then again only managed to play 21 games in '05-'06....but he has played well and played atleast 65 games/season since then. Oden can certainly manage to do something similar..maybe even better..he is only 23.

you need to have a defensive big in the middle, so I would definitely look at Oden. I would focus on getting Shaq back first but would look to any defensive big after that.

problem is we don't have money to sign guys other than the MLE.

I think you could sign the kid to a 10mill a year contract with an insurance stipulation like when we had Theo. As long as he's injured, we as a team don't have to pay for him. Then it's like Delonte... only way is up.

Why not? Hell the Cs have been big fans of injured, down and out players.

It's a waste of time, because we don't have the money.

If we did have the money (likely $8 - $10 million for at least three years), I'd pass due to risk.

Hill also played 335 games before he got hurt. This kid has never been healthy. It's sad that he's made of candy glass, but he is. Why throw money on someone who is perpetually injured.

I'm against the idea of signing him...but I just don't agree that he won't be able to play more than a few games every season...he is still young and has a good chance of being a very good and durable center.

I don't think Dwight is coming here in 2012...but we could make a run for someone like Marc Gasol.

That's true...but the difference between the two guys is kind of like the difference between Luol Deng and LeBron James..in terms of talent.

LeBron took his talents to South Beach...meanwhile Deng's team is at the top in ECF. ;)
