Too bad we don't have an exception big enough to just claim him off waivers and be done with it.

Cleveland, Toronto, and Charlotte (if they have an exc.) should give it some thought...

Any chance someone that could help us gets waived in the $2.488 million range?

I'm sure the team wouldn't want to pay the luxury tax on the full salary.  A minimum contract at this point costs the team around $300k, plus $300k in luxury tax.  Claiming a $2.4 guy off waivers would cost $800k, plus $2.4 million in luxury tax.  $2.6 million is a lot, even to billionaires.

Wouldn't know much about that...and am actually getting further away by the minute (got the layoff notice today...).

But I'm guessing they'd make some of it back with a Finals appearance, vs. getting knocked out by, say, Miami if the best buyout guys go there instead.

Would his Bird rights, option year etc. transfer if a team claims a player off waivers, like in a trade, or are they gone like in a FA signing?  A young guy like Brewer might be worth it

Brewer would be James Posey Jr.

It's going to be pretty ironic if we trade away our starting center to sign a small forward, and then the best player we're able to land in the buyout market ends up being a wing.

Perk + Brewer > Green + Krstic, in my mind.

Maybe so, but it's a moot point...  What's done is done.

Yeah, but it doesn't mean Danny gets patted on the back for miscalculating.  Not a good decision by #44, if this is how it works out.

I think you are either dramatically overrating Brewer, or underrating Green.  Brewer is a borderline NBA player.

Depends on the role.

As a starter

Green  >>>>>>>>>>>>Brewer

As a backup to Pierce

Green > Brewer.

Still better, but the difference doesn't mean as much.

And I don't care about the future right now.

Yep, agreed.  The upgrade from Brewer to Green in 12 or so minutes per game in the playoffs wasn't worth the downgrade from Perk to Krstic.

is what I'm saying...also don't forget about losing NateRob as well.

One problem I can see with Green is that coming in off the bench could be a struggle for him because he doesn't play with a lot of intensity.

I hope Brewer comes aboard and then signs for next year.  I don't think he'd play much this year unless we suffered an injury, but who cares?  Wyc might, but if they'd like him for next year as well I would think they'd go ahead and sign him.  What's he worth in free agency?  Can a bought out player only sign for the remainder of the year they're bought out in, or can they go ahead and sign a deal for the rest of the year and beyond?  If he's good on the fast break it might be worth watching some of he, Rondo and Bradley play together, along with Green and KG for example......(or some brand new pogo stick of a center we're about to add...)

I wouldn't be surprised if it was well over 12 a game. Doc and Danny have both talked about playing Green at the 4 and KG at the 5. Also they could play Green at the 3 and PP at the two to get Ray a rest. Tony got 16 a game last year, I doubt Green will get less.

Green/Pierce at the wing is a good combo.

Yeah, Green will be in the 20 minutes per game area.  But for me, the bigger issue is that Brewer is just not a good basketball player right now.  I do not think he is really any better than Von Wafer.  He is a poor man's Tony Allen.

Not sure why Dallas would be a frontrunner. Brewer wouldn't start there and his minutes would be fairly limited as a backup two just like they would be here in Boston.

Corey Brewer's lack of offensive ability makes him a poor fit on an offensively challenged team like Dallas who really don't have go-to scorers outside of Dirk in that starting unit.

Someone like DeShawn Stevenson who can shoot the ball offers more to that lineup than Brewer does. Even if Butler gets back in time for the playoffs and is performing at a high level, Dallas is still vulnerable offensively due to the low shot-creation of Kidd and Tyson.

And if they wanted to play a non-shooter there ... then they should go with Shawn Marion who is a superior defender/rebounder on the wing + has a far superior offensive skill-set as a guard (create mismatches / shots with his post game against two guards).

I don't see how Dallas is that big a threat for Brewer. They're in the same boat as Boston.

I'm not sure there is anyone that is truly ahead of the pack on this one. Not at this point. Brewer looks to be the second wing off the bench wherever he goes (contender wise).

Mike Fisher: #Mavs put in their Brewer bid. Patiently waiting ...

not sure what this means, i'm worried since they have their MLE to spend.

David Aldridge: Boston in mix for Corey Brewer, waived (?) by Knicks, but has company: CHI, MIA, NOH, SA, DAL chasing as well.

It means they will get him. We can't compete with those $$.

Dallas has the incentive of money.  Brewer hasn't earned a huge contract in his career yet, so an extra $1 million or so could be a huge difference maker.

Let's hope Doc could convince Brewer of coming anyway..

Miami,Chicago,Spurs,Celtics don't have more than vet min to offer, Dallas has money, not so sure about hornets, no wonder Stern getting involved in this too he owns the hornets...

Celtics have made plenty of moves so far in the name of offense. Krstic, Green, now Murphy.

I want another defender, especially given the wing players the C's will have to face in the playoffs. I think a long and mobile wing like Brewer would really help us more than Wafer.

I think the best thing about signing Brewer is giving Doc two completely different options in Von Wafer or Corey Brewer.

The offensive punch of Von Wafer vs the excellent defense on Brewer.

Doc can pick and choose the skill-set he wants matchup wise against the opposition.

I think those two guys, and Jeff Green too, offer a diverse range of options for Doc depending on what he needs in a given playoff game / series. Valuable option(s).
