Corey Brewer is a wing that cannot score, however he is a solid defender. I will say this, I think that if he could produce anywhere in the NBA it is Boston. Just the defensive system we have and the veteran presence is a far cry from Minnesota. Should he be our first option? no but he could be an okay 12th man.

I really don't see all that much of a difference between him and Tony Allen, cept tony is a bit bulkier and Brewer is taller. That's a pretty big plus in my book to gain that kind of defender again.

TA is much better than Brewer on both sides of the ball.  Brewer's offensive game is like Gerald Green without the shooting touch.  Very awkward and ineffective, no explosiveness with the ball despite the athleticism.  Good defender, but so are Quinton Ross and a ton of D-league wings.

I'd take him as a reverse Von Wafer, but I wouldn't be excited about it.

Corey Brewer would make a fine addition to this team, but ultimately we still need another big. With the lingering health questions of Shaq and Jermaine, we can't depend on Krstic and Baby to play Center for the rest of the season, and perhaps beyond for us.

I'm glad to hear the report this evening on NESN that Shaq has lost 15 lbs, and is in the best shape he's supposedly been in all season.

The Knicks have waived Kelenna Azubuike, and Alan Hahn implies that Brewer might not be bought out after all.

Other sources still have Brewer on track to be bought out, though, which means the Knicks must be picking up somebody.

Yaah, disregard.  I didn't see the update.  So, Brewer and Azubuike are both in play.

Isn't Jared Jefferies supposed to sign with the Knicks? Or have they already signed him?

Azubuke is the guy I want for the celtics, he would be a huge pickup

I prefer Azubuike even with the injury.  If we were rebuilding, then fine, take a chance on Brewer, but if the goal is someone who could actually handle playing in an NBA playoff game, I go with Buike.

The Azuibuke cut was so they could sign him tomorrow when he clears waivers.  Brewer is being bought out so they can try to bring in a center (Hahn suggested Gadzuric).

If they did bring in Brewer it would be an okay move. I'm not a huge fan of his game but lets face it, at this point we just need bodies in Celtics uniforms who aren't d-league guys. In the playoffs you want guys who have played some games in the NBA and so you need to hit on some of these buyouts.

So bring in Murphy, Brewer and go after a PG cause after West just got hurt again we really need someone to play PG behind him but the problem with that is who? I don't see a lot of news on PG's who will be bought out so I'm not sure what else is out there... maybe Jason Williams. Not bad pick ups, not ideal but not bad.

It's going to be pretty ironic if we trade away our starting center to sign a small forward, and then the best player we're able to land in the buyout market ends up being a wing.

Perk + Brewer > Green + Krstic, in my mind.

Maybe so, but it's a moot point...  What's done is done.

Yeah, but it doesn't mean Danny gets patted on the back for miscalculating.  Not a good decision by #44, if this is how it works out.

I think you are either dramatically overrating Brewer, or underrating Green.  Brewer is a borderline NBA player.

Depends on the role.

As a starter

Green  >>>>>>>>>>>>Brewer

As a backup to Pierce

Green > Brewer.

Still better, but the difference doesn't mean as much.

And I don't care about the future right now.

Yep, agreed.  The upgrade from Brewer to Green in 12 or so minutes per game in the playoffs wasn't worth the downgrade from Perk to Krstic.

Too bad we don't have an exception big enough to just claim him off waivers and be done with it.

Cleveland, Toronto, and Charlotte (if they have an exc.) should give it some thought...

Any chance someone that could help us gets waived in the $2.488 million range?

But the question becomes how much more Green might play.  Foul trouble alone for Pierce could get Green 20 mpg.  And if Doc gets creative, Green could get minutes backing up both Garnett and Ray (with Pierce sliding to the 2 to play next to Green at the 3).

In that scenario, we could see 25+ mpg, and that could make a difference.

I'm sure the team wouldn't want to pay the luxury tax on the full salary.  A minimum contract at this point costs the team around $300k, plus $300k in luxury tax.  Claiming a $2.4 guy off waivers would cost $800k, plus $2.4 million in luxury tax.  $2.6 million is a lot, even to billionaires.
