He had no qualms about going out and finding any team that would have paid him more than the Celtics. If he had found one, he would have cried himself out on his way to the bank. He started the "poker" game. He knew what he was doing - He cried "wolf" and the wolf came. thats all. No pity for him. Like another poster said: He should have known that in spite of all his offensive shortcomings, he did good with us cause he played with a team that could carry him. He made a huge mistake in announcing his intentions. He will only do good if he plays for another team that can do with his shortcomings like Miami. His gamble may pay up; it might not. Its all water under the bridge now, Enough said.
By all accounts, the max inseason extension that was allowed to him was VERY low in comparison to his value - the MLE is worth more than that extension. Perk took a hometown discount once for us, why should he be forced to do it again? The man wanted to be a Celtic, even through the free agency talk he always said he and his wife couldn't see their family anywhere but Boston... He deserves to get a nice contract. So do we fault him for wanting to get what he was due from a financial standpoint? Management decided that they wanted to put all their eggs in the Dwight Howard-2012 basket, and that couldn't happen if Perk was on the hook for $10m per.
I have no problem with the story about him not wanting to see green. He's not a Celtic anymore and he's trying to move on from that. He didn't bash management or his former teammates, but he knows we're the opponent now - and we all know Perk feels about the opponent... What do people want him to do? Go to bed at night clutching his Celtics jersey? C'mon.
