Boo Hoo, man, give me a break! I am sorry guys but it's kind of hard for me to feel too sorry for a man who makes 4-5 million dollars a year just because he has to swtich teams! I mean, really, I loved Perk and still do but if you pay me 4.5 million dollars I would have a Lakers tatoo put on my right cheek and wear nothing but Lakers clothing every day of the year.

I can't stand this way of thinking about things when it comes to Pro athletes.  THey are all still human.  Stop hating and being jealous of another man's wealth.

I agree with this completely.

Should we not feel bad for the Celtic players for losing in the Finals because they have a lot of money?

Because if money is everything then why should we feel bad for them about that.

Also with Perk's reaction how do we know that he wouldn't have taken a contract with a little bit of a raise then the one Danny offered?

Like you have pointed, that was a business decision. Perk might not have wanted to play the game, but he allowed his agent to play, of course the outcome didn't please him. I'm sorry for the sadness around the team, but I have nothing against Perk, wish him health and success because he seems like a good honest man.

The most interesting thing, in my opinion, is the example Danny has set, a bit like Bill "Hoodie" Belichick (if you want out, I'll help you). What do you think BBD is thinking about resigning with the team? How much will the Celtics offer him? Well, he wanted to "test the waters" 2 seasons ago and his value around the league wasn't as high as he thought. This summer might be different, but I bet Danny will lowball and invite him to "test the waters" again if he doesn't like the Celtics offer.

Well, I think it depends on what happens with Jeff Green and the health of our centers.  If Shaq, JO, and Nenad are healthy, BBD's days playing center are probably over.  And if Jeff Green is going to play with the starters, he may take Baby's role at the end of games.

That could lead to a drastic drop in minutes, which could lead to one of two things:

1) BBD's stock drops big time with his numbers and the C's can keep him at a reasonable number.

2) Baby sees the writing on the wall and leaves even if it means going somewhere else for comparable money to what the C's offer.

As for the feeling bad business that others are discussing, I'll say what I said earlier.  We get emotionally connected to these players, so it's natural to have sympathy.  However, there does need to be an end to it.  As I said before, Perk is a professional athlete making millions of dollars, not a starving child in the developing world.

Feel badly for him for a few days, but know that he's going to be just fine.

Good post. I guess you are right about BBD's future, and I agree with the emotional part, I don't feel bad for Perk, hopefully he'll find what he thought he deserved, and that's ok. I felt bad for the sad situation, and how it has affected guys like Rondo, and the most of our CB community. We'll all be ok, I posted some days ago that in a few weeks KG will be telling the media how good a kid Jeff Green is.

As everyone go through our own stages of grief, the positive notes will be more and more, I'm not worried at all.

If the Celtics didn't make it to the Finals, I guess the "fire Danny" threads would rise, but I think they will be able to fight for #18, and hopefully, bring it home.

Poor Perk.  He's really taking it hard. :-[

I feel bad for him, but it's time for him to grow up now.

"time for him to grow up" ?

Perk is struggling through a very painful time and is going thru a myriad of mixed up emotions - disbelief & heartbreak, dissilusionment & anger - and is trying to make the best of a bad situation.

i would be more worried about him if he was not having some or all of these reactions. what do you want from the guy - have him be a robot and express a bunch of gratitude for the Celtics and hope for his future with OKC. he's a Celtic at heart and that was ripped away from him by Danny Boy. i don't blame Perk at all.

maybe you need to grow up and understand that people are way more complex than you want them to be.

I know that whatever he does symbolically right now won't mean nothing once Boston plays OKC next year.

I have no doubt in my mind that he won't hug his former teammates and KG and company will return the favor.

No doubt.

I highly doubt that!  They're not the reason he's gone.

You think so? You really believe that Perk will ignore Rondo, KG and Co when they play next year?

So right before the game, during the meet and greets right before tip off he will ignore them?

I bet 400 TPs on that one ;D.

Relax, folks.  He plays for OKC now.  He has no choice but to move on at this point.

Exactly. This isn't a big deal. His job is to be committed to OKC.

No worries, Man.

I just hope that no matter who Perk plays for now, the bonds that were formed in Green don't go away because of what happened.

It's ok to compete, but he can't erase the memories here.

Clearly he's taking it very hard.  Poor guy.  I hope he gets a standing ovation when he returns to the Garden

Know the Boston fans, he will get one.

It makes perfect sense that Perkins is taking it very hard.  Think about it, he was drafted out of high school and has only known/worked for the Celtics.  He went from a young immature kid to become a man while with this organization, staff, and players.

And during that time he got married (with his teammates as his best friends), settled down, and had a child.  He won an NBA championship, was on the doorstep of winning another, and has worked hard to come back with that sole goal in mind.

Now Boston is no longer homebase for his wife and child, and his supportive teammates are no longer around him everyday.  The Celtics is all he's known, and all he dedicated himself to in his career.  I don't blame him one bit for being emotional, and I hope he comes back here in the future :)

Why does he not want to see anything green?  Does it remind him of what it's like to play with four allstars?  Does it remind him how much he benefitted from being a role player on our team?  Does it remind him of how much he screwed up a good thing by refusing to negotiate with us?

I loved Perk and stood by him and his weaknesses as a player for all these years, but c'mon Perk look in the mirror.  You obviously got a big head and now you know that you shouldn't think so highly of yourself.  Someone hears "best defensive center in the league" on ESPN, their gonna think "jeez that's gotta be worth something" $.  What he failed to see was that he was only a role player on a very good defensive team.  Perk is good at what he does, but clearly he wanted more than he was worth, so he pretty much sealed his own fait with this one.

Things not to love about perk

athleticism

attitude

his wonderfully crafty "upfakes" under the hoop

Free throw shooting

Offense

Running the open court

Otherwise, good luck perk and stick it to LA
