Honestly, I don't know why this coach is still there.  He has not done anything positive, and seems deadset on alienating as many players as he can.

Hopefully Rip and Ben would love to have both of those guys.

No way they can buy rip out. He's owed too much. he's still owed the rest of this year, 12.65 mil next year, and 9 mil guaranteed/up to 12.65 for the year after. So let's call it 25 million guaranteed if Detroit only keeps him for 1 year after this; 28 if they keep him for 2 years.

Remember that whatever he takes for a buyout will have to be averaged out against Detroit's cap for the next 2 seasons after this one.

So, 2 questions:

1. Rip has declined drastically, and the there's going to be a new CBA. He will not make nearly as much as he is now on the open market. So, out of the 25-28 guaranteed to him, how much of a pay cut would he take? would he take 21 million?

2. Whatever Rip would take, would Detroit do it? Would they really buy out Rip for 21 million, just to have to pay him 7 million per year, while he is playing for another team? That is tough to swallow.

It's not like hamilton is saying "buy me out of my 28 million for 3 million, i just want to leave." Sounds like he wants everything.

Prince, McGrady, Wilcox and Wallace, however, i could see potentially being bought out.

Ben Wallace is not part of this protest. He has been attending to a personal matter for the past several days. He won't leave Detroit again.

Kuester is a dead man walking. If Joe Dumars has any hope of resigning Prince as he says he wants to, Kuester will be gone, and soon.

I love it, it's like a teachers strike. They are not actually allowed to strike so they plan to use their sick days at the same time.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

The more amazing thing is that Dumars probably actually does want to extend prince. And then he'll spend the next 3 seasons trying to ship a 30+ year old player owed 12 million a year to another team to continue the rebuilding effort.

Dumars is ridiculously overrated; he's seemingly earned an infinite pass because he put together the team that took advantage of (and instigated) the epic melt down of the Eastern Favorite that year (Indy), took advantage of a low point of the league, and slipped passed an injured Lakers team at the height of their dysfunction. Since then, he's botched almost everything.

would not be surprised to see ownership
make a statement this won't be tolerated
and buy one of them out.
probably won't be Ben, though.
an example could be made

That's like sending a kid to his room to play video games because he refused to do his homework.

Marc Stein is writing about the protest:

http://espn.go.com/blog/TrueHoop/post/_/id/25479/coaching-change-coming-in-detroit

Quote
There surely has to be some measure of discipline meted out to the players involved (Hamilton, Prince, Tracy McGrady, Ben Wallace and Chris Wilcox) if it’s proven that this was indeed an organized walkout. The organization has to make its own statement on top of the damage those players have done to their own reputations … especially after Terry Foster of the Detroit News reported Friday on his WXYT-FM radio show that some of the same players were planning a similar protest on the morning of the Pistons’ final game before the All-Star break against Indiana but called it off and wound up winning when they were told that Kuester would be ousted during the break.

Sad to see the franchise devolve from excellence to mediocrity to "buffoonery" in such a short time span.

I don't know who's responsible for what's going on, but what's happening there is a disaster.
