I'd like to pickup T-Mac if he gets waived or bought out. I think he can handle backup PG duties if West goes down again, and would make a nice tandum with West in the backcourt if he stays healthy. I know TMc has lost a step and some lift, but he still has good court vision and some crafty veteran moves.

I think with Green on board now we won't have much chance of landing Prince if he is bought out. I think he'd go to Dallas or LA now that we have our backup 3/stretch 4.

No way they can buy rip out. He's owed too much. he's still owed the rest of this year, 12.65 mil next year, and 9 mil guaranteed/up to 12.65 for the year after. So let's call it 25 million guaranteed if Detroit only keeps him for 1 year after this; 28 if they keep him for 2 years.

Remember that whatever he takes for a buyout will have to be averaged out against Detroit's cap for the next 2 seasons after this one.

So, 2 questions:

1. Rip has declined drastically, and the there's going to be a new CBA. He will not make nearly as much as he is now on the open market. So, out of the 25-28 guaranteed to him, how much of a pay cut would he take? would he take 21 million?

2. Whatever Rip would take, would Detroit do it? Would they really buy out Rip for 21 million, just to have to pay him 7 million per year, while he is playing for another team? That is tough to swallow.

It's not like hamilton is saying "buy me out of my 28 million for 3 million, i just want to leave." Sounds like he wants everything.

Even though its not good news, TP for breakin that down for me!

Honestly, I don't know why this coach is still there.  He has not done anything positive, and seems deadset on alienating as many players as he can.

Yeah it boggles my mind too. With the way coaches go through the revolving door in the last few years I honestly dont know why he hasnt been given the boot yet.

What a train wreck of a season for the Pistons. I think you have to fire EVERYONE from the top down. There are plenty of guys on that list who are champions and guys I always thought had alot of class. Something stinks in Detroit.

And yeah...Ben Wallace would be nice. If Tayshaun gets bought out I will be depressed (redundant after getting Green, but would have been perfect if we kept Perk).

I don't give a flying crap if Kuester is Satan himself.  I can't imagine being an NBA professional basketball player and not wanting to go to work.

Get a real freakin' job and see how coddling construction supervisors are.

Obviously there is not a parallel to real life and fundamentally I agree with you but this guy is clearly an idiot.

He managed to screw both the players by screwing with their playing time AND the organization by making guys like Rip untradeable because every team knew how desperate they were to get rid of him.

Have you ever heard of any of these guys (minus McGrady) being a headache?

I think you have to look at the coach. It's a players league.

Well, I see your point...

But Detroit sure has gone through quite a few coaches with that core group (Rip, Prince, Ben W.).  Is the coach(es) taking the fall for the GM's bad decision to over-rate and over-pay this group, which in turn now over-rates themselves?  And are they so overly-cohesive as a group that they resist efforts to make them better?

Yeah earlier in this thread I said everyone should be fired from the top down and I was referring to Dumars. I think he is out of amnesty from the title. He kept them together too long. That being said, these guys could still be great role players for contenders. They are certainly taking the immature approach, but they have a point. Let them go!

And that's exactly right:  $10 million role players = Detroit Pistons these last couple of years.

Say what we want about Danny, but that's a mistake he is unlikely to make.  Imagine Perk and Posey making a combined $16 million...two role players making the equivalent of one max deal, right?  A $10 mil defensive C and a $6 mil MLE bench defender, neither with upside.  Yuck.

Would Dallas make a play for McGrady if he was bought out? If not, I think he'd be very handy for us if we could get him.

No surprise, but none of the players involved in the protest are in the starting lineup for this evening. End-of-bencher Dajuan Summers got a starting nod.

I'd be curious to see if any of them get off the bench tonight.

This was a good move by the players I think. I know that NBA should be and need to be professional and what they did was far from that but something needed to be done.

They were benching Rip and not giving him minutes at all but they weren't really winning games either so why did they bench him? Rip could have made an impact and maybe you win that game or those games. If they were winning that's one thing but they weren't.

I applaud the Pistons players for making a statement.

Here's the really sad part...this could be the Celtics in 2013 after the Big Three Era comes to an abrupt end and Doc leaves. Let's hope not but these meteoric falls from championship level to chumpionship level seem to occur more often than one would think.

I doubt it, nick. A big part of the problem going on with the Pistons is that the widow of the former owner doesn't want the team, doesn't want anything to do with the day-to-day operations, and can't agree on a sale of the franchise. Meanwhile, Joe Dumars has a mess on his hands, but can't do a thing about it. No direction from the top = a rudderless ship.

I don't see that happening with the Celtics. Then again, I doubt anyone could have foreseen what is currently happening in Detroit.
