Here's the really sad part...this could be the Celtics in 2013 after the Big Three Era comes to an abrupt end and Doc leaves. Let's hope not but these meteoric falls from championship level to chumpionship level seem to occur more often than one would think.

Not so sure on that, Nick.  The Pistons have been in decline for quite a while.  The loss in the Finals was probably their last real shot; they continued to have a great regular season record for a few more years, but the problems were apparent when they were still winning, yet turned on Flip Saunders anyway.  He's a good coach, but the players stuck together and got him booted.

It should have worked the other way:  at that point, there was no coach the group would have listened to, and no way they could have gotten over the hump, either.  That's when the wheels started coming off, IMO.  Dumars overrated his own team, who then overrated themselves and stopped being coachable.

Unlikely that Danny takes on the types of contracts Dumars did. Overpaying and overvaluing Maxiell, paying for extended years for Rip, Villanueva and Gordon and hamstringing himself. Dumars painted himself into a corner and can't get out.

I think (hope) Danny's too slick for that.

I hope you guys are right and not just bleeding green. All I know is that I have seen teams like the Bulls, the Heat, the Rockets, the Pistons and others go from championship to God awful in just a few years. Very seldom is continued excellence happening through different eras of personnel.

Danny is a great GM but lets not forget has in the past thrown good money at bad investments(Jermaine O'Neal, Mark Blount, Brian Scalabrine, Tony Allen extension, Nate Robinson) and making questionable trades. If he doesn't handle things properly, really anything is possible.

I hope and pray it won't happen but I wouldn't rule out a fast return to lotteryville in just a couple or so years.

I doubt T-Mac improved his stock much with this sit-out and then the laugh track during a game.

You considered Tony Allen a bad investment?  Wow.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I'm glad we didn't sign Rip Hamilton.

Quote
About a week prior to his banishment to the Detroit Pistons’ bench in January, Richard Hamilton berated coach John Kuester in a jarring and expletive-filled diatribe on the practice court, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

As stunned coaches and teammates watched, Hamilton bellowed at Kuester that he had been a failure in his two seasons in Detroit, blown the opportunity the franchise afforded him and was nothing more than a career assistant coach, sources said. Despite Hamilton yelling within inches of him, Kuester didn’t respond.

Several of the team’s younger players were mortified watching it and privately told agents and associates they wished they had the courage to stand up, confront Hamilton and try to take control back from the disgruntled vetera
