  • You know my methods, Watson.
What happens if Perk morphs into the next Leon Powe?

It could happen, you know?

If so, he just pawned off a decent center with low-post skills, a nice scoring wing, and a 1st round pick that could be kept or shipped off in another deal...

What if Perk demands a HUGE contract (which he will) and he's still gimping around on that knee?

Danny learned a great lesson in doing what Red never would do: don't be afraid to move a guy too SOON.  Better a year too early than a year (and lots of money) too late...

Perkins probably the most overrated role player in the history of the Celtics.

KG goes out. Defense is average (106 ppp allowed in 09 playoffs.) Backup is Big Baby who is an average defender.

Perk goes out. Defense is elite(100 ppp allowed this season.) Backup is Shaq who is an average defender.

Perkins not a great fit with Rondo since he doesn't finish at the rim and doesn't space the floor.

I will say that I am unsure about Green. Not in love with his game, but the majority of time I've watched him he has been a 4. I also think people are underrating Krstic. Above average post defender.

gearing up to offer a max contract to a free agent in 2012 o start the post big 3 era

But why give up 60 games into the season when you've been playing really well?

I don't see it.

+1 to the OPs point of view.

how is this giving up? the roster will be stronger heading into the playoffs this yeat and the main competition is miami...this deal really helps boston match up with them better

I don't see how this makes them better. They beat Miami 3 times with the old lineup... what will the new lineup accomplish?? This move could work... or it could blow up in Dannys face, much like it did with Otis Smith and the Magic move he made earlier in the season.

You do realize that two of those times was without Perk right?

WHY PERK?? and why now? If they felt that his asking price was going to be too much this summer, then we could have worked out a sign and trade.
No-one has to give you anything in a sign-and-trade when they can just go ahead and sign Perkins.

People serioulsy think trading Kendrick Perkins is throwing in the towel???  We were in first place the whole time he was out.  When healthy both Shaq and Jermaine deserve to start over him.  As others have already said Perk is not relied upon to close out games.  Your best players are on the floor with the game on the line so that tells you a a lot.

I think the C's realized Perk reached his ceiling as a player.  He's going to get huge offers because he played on a winning team.  How many times have we seen that happen.  But the C's are not going to overpay him.  He's great defender, but a below average offensive player, and you have to look at both sides of the ball.  It's no different than criticizing a player who only scores but doesn't defend.

Very premature.  I think we all need to see how this plays out.

Could this ultimately prove to be a bad move?  Absolutely.  However, it could also make this team much more dynamic.  The Celtics can now run a lineup of the Big Four + Green and be very, very hard to guard.

Also, I can't imagine that Danny just gave away Luke and Semih for no reason.  He must be positive (or darn close) that there are two better big men available.  Otherwise, he just would've held onto them.

P.S. I don't think Chris Johnson is the plan.

I agree, its like I light a match and someone just goes around and shouts a big fire! a big fire!

Danny and Co. know well enough what the status is when it comes to the health of Perk, Shaq and JO that they were willing and did trade up Perk and Semih, than anyone here.

Loosing perk doesn't equate to giving up for 18 this year considering 3 spots are still up for grabs.
Complete over reaction (and overrating).

  • It's all about the TEAM!
I think regardless how you feel about these moves, whether you're for them or against them, it brings a level of uncertainty that we wasn't expecting. The feeling a move was going to take place was certainly happening. But I don't think any of us felt like it would be 5 players. And yes, the lesser players are easy to let go and yes, they all had their problems, but they all (except maybe Luke) showed extended flashes of their abilities and one thing that can't be manufactured right off the bat is chemistry. Now we are left with question marks. I think there is a bit of pain going on here or just a lot of fear of the unknown. We were comfortable with the team we had. We knew how they meshed together when they played well. We knew their weaknesses and we knew how the Celtics would try and deal with it. Maybe we just all kept thinking things would be right by the playoffs. Now it seems like maybe we are closer to panic than even we were experiencing. The confidence at the top is lacking more than even we knew it was. Obviously the top has come to some serious conclusions.

I keep thinking there has to be another move here that makes us feel better and makes us feel like all of this was good moves. We just aint there yet and we are all just kinda shellshocked or telling ourselves we'll be okay. Even if you believe in this deal, it's still got to be even just a bit alarming even given these outright dire circumstances we knew we were up against it, it just doesn't make most of us comfortable seeing how we responded to it. I think all of us are envisioning banner #18 and have been all year. Now it just feels a bit like panic. Maybe just a bit more than we expected.

Maybe this will prove brilliant. Maybe this was genius. But right now I think there is a lot of us feeling uncomfortable about this and we're just hoping it's going to work out. I think collectively, we are all crossing our fingers and saying some tiny prayers. All of us seem to be feeling that this could have been a make or break moment and we don't know which one it is yet but we do know today was a moment that will not be forgotten when we close the book on this season. You know this day will factor in one way or another.

danny just on weei....

1. hard to let perk go…agononized over the decision
2. shaq will return next week
3. expects JO to be full go by april and feels he is a big piece going forward...felt shaq played very well with starters and was best used as a starter
4. danny was worried about the injuries…esp with erden and perk
5. they will look to sign 3 guys…a big, wing and a guard in that order…
6. had an eye on the other contenders when they made this deal
7. they know who they want in buy outs and said they are ready to pounce as soon as they can..
8. would love to sign either a great defender or a great shooter
9. johnson is a guy that is going to get them through until next week when kristic comes and shaq returns
10. said shaq is closer to returning that perk was

Danny did not screw up, 'ya' screwed up son. What if Perk ended up walking as a free agent and you get nothing for him, 'ya' would say he screwed up then too.

You don't trade away a critical peace of your team when you have a shot to win a championship for the future.  Idc if we wouldn't have gotten anything back in return for Perk.

If we won a championship it would have been worth it.

Chances like this at a championship don't come around very often like this.

i bet you thought Theo messed up when he traded Nomar.....

Nomar was a jerk and no one liked him in the clubhouse. This is 180 degrees oppposite. No comparison.

27 games to go...and we have new players coming in who will have to learn to play in our system...learn defense etc. Good luck, Doc. You'll need it. We may have just bid homecourt advantage a good bye.

This is the part that gets me..I don't want to see the Celtics go on the road in any round of the playoffs..I can't stand to see Miami on top, all we're going to hear is how Miami can beat Boston now that we traded Perk(TP to whoever said we beat them twice already without Perk, thanks for reminding me of that lol)..I just really wish we had him here to help combat against Dwight Howard and Gasol/Bynum/Odom..or maybe even Duncan/Blair/McDyess and Chandler/Dirk/Haywood.
