what's the tie breaker if the rays and sox end the season tied up?

1 game playoff

Sooo much better than how the NBA does things. It would be a fitting way to end it.

pretty sure they already did a playoff and the game would be in tampa on Thursday.
Yup

The next day after hitting a home run that seemed like it might save the Red Sox' post-season hopes, Jacoby Ellsbury makes an outfield error, dropping a ball he had his mitt on, that might doom the Red Sox. So much for all that MVP talk.

not an error

he made a hell of a play just to get to the ball and the wall knocked it out

perhaps.  it certainly was a tough play.  still, it's a microcosm of this month.  sox trying hard, but just don't have quite enough to make the play when they need it (last night not withstanding).

don't worry, we won't get there.  if the sox don't tie up the wild card before wednesday, they're definitely going to choke.  no question.  they have been in full-on panic mode for 3 weeks now.  the rays have all of the confidence.

I've always felt like you should probably catch the ball if it hits your glove (and he definitely could have had that one), but still, most guys don't even get to that ball.

meh.  im all set with what we've gotten from salty / tek this season.  they haven't been great offensively, but with our lineup we shouldn't have to fret about the latter part of our lineup not driving in a lot of runs.  the sox simply don't have any excuse for not scoring a lot of runs, even now.  ellsbury, pedroia, gonzalez, ortiz, crawford . . . that should be 4-5 guaranteed runs almost every game.

the pitching is what it is.  the depth isn't what it should be, and the lackey and dice-k signings were horrendous and have really hurt the sox.  but the hitting should be really good, and has been for stretches of this season.  overall, though, the hitting has been bafflingly inconsistent.

I wish the Red Sox were done already.  Having to watch them complete this debacle is just painful.  I'm ashamed for them.

The Red Sox likely need to finish out the season 2-0, because the Yanks don't have anything left to play for and are going to be throwing out Triple A lineups to keep their regulars healthy for the playoffs.  I'd be shocked if TB didn't win out.

I would love to see the tiebreaker game that really means something to both teams.

I definitely expect them to light up Bartolo Calzone tonight.  Plus, they have Hellickson on the mound.
