What can you say?  The Rays are just the team of destiny, at least as far as winning the wild card is concerned.

Sox are toast.

Rays top players gutting it out trying to save their season against the Yankees' rookies / scrubs / prospects.  Not much question in my mind who wins the game.

The Dan Johnson HR just sealed the wild card, imo.  Sox have to hope to pull out a win vs. the Orioles tonight just to have the chance to trot out Wakefield / Lackey tomorrow in Tampa Bay.  Yuck.

Prior to that home run, by the way, Dan Johnson hadn't gotten a major-league hit since April 27th.  #teamofdestiny.

What a great last week of the season this has been...no one is giving an inch.  Some one is going to have to go out and WIN it.

Sox haven't inspired much faith recently (especially not Lackey / Wakefield).

Neither did the Celtics in the end of the regular season a couple years ago and they went to game 7 of the Finals

Come on, guys.  If the game is called, Boston has already won, and I want a playoff.  Rays will probably be to tired to beat the Sox anyway.

At least they'd get to stay put and have a starting pitcher!

Here's a fun question:  Does Ellsbury have chance at winning the AL MVP if the Sox don't make it to the playoffs, even though his season has been historically great?

The Celtics weren't playing like crap down to the wire at the end of the regular season even with a playoff berth on the line.  They played like crap in the regular season because they didn't crap.

Very different situation here.
