And now more John Lackey drama...even after a big win he has to make a stink in the locker room, picking a fight with the media over a text message regarding his filing for divorce.

Seriously, is there a more unlikeable player around right now?

The guy is having a rough time and the media isn't making it any easier for him, give the guy a break. Having to deal with your wife battling cancer at a young age has to be very, very hard. Divorcing her I'm sure was not easy for him to do either.

He's been standoffish with the media all season.  Regularly shows up his teamates and his manager during games.  Is statistically the worst starting pitcher in Red Sox history, but continues to make excuses and blame others.  Now this...I can't give the guy the benefit of the doubt when he's acted like a punk all year.

If he mentally could not focus due to his personal struggles, then he should have taken a leave from the team, or someone from the organization should have stepped in and made that decision for him.  He needs to understand that with a big contract comes more scrutiny.

Just the kind of win the Sox needed.... let's see them go on a roll now!!  Showed a lot of heart out there!

I only made it til the 13th.  Dare I say it reminded me of Game 4 of the `04 ALCS.  Hoping against hope that they would pull it out. (obviously a lot less on the line and the Yankees weren't playing with a fully loaded lineup last night)
Yup

I actually kept having the same thought.  The difference is, after game 4, I actually felt pretty confident, just seeing how things lined up for the rest of the series, I could see a way they could turn it around.  I have less confidence right now.  With their injuries, the way the bullpen is roughed up, and the overall lack of mental toughness this team has shown, it is tough to get too confident on this team even making the playoffs, let alone making noise.  I hope I am wrong though.

I didn't think about 2004 once last night.  Instead, I kept having flashbacks to Game 7 of 2003.  As the game went into extras, I was 100% confident that the Yankees were going to hit a walkoff HR to beat us, Aaron Boone style.

Glad I was wrong.  As bad as they're playing right now, I'd still like to see them in the playoffs.

At this point, I have lost most interest in baseball (that happened a few years ago actually), but right now, I am really hoping they make it to the playoffs, and Lackey ends up lights out in the playoffs.  The games might be boring, but it would be so entertaining to see everyone, particularly in the media try to deal with the guy they have been killing all year be the hero.

True Roy, there was a lot of that too (though I had much the same feeling in Game 4's extra innings in `04 as I did Game 7)... A lifetime of experience in Red SOx classic chokes and an inferiority complex around the Yankees etc...
Yup

Seriously. I don't know lots about the Sox right now, but I know I'm done with this guy.
Go back to the farm loser.

  • Rondo = Good
The next day after hitting a home run that seemed like it might save the Red Sox' post-season hopes, Jacoby Ellsbury makes an outfield error, dropping a ball he had his mitt on, that might doom the Red Sox. So much for all that MVP talk.

Sooo much better than how the NBA does things. It would be a fitting way to end it.
